OK from all of your experance who is the best source for 70" lake pipes I am tossing a set on my 60 thunderturd to add to the low looks and to hide my wavy rockers.. I am not sure if i am going to mold them in yet or not but i have thought about it. So give me the low down...
i was gonna be a smart *** and do a quick search and give you a bunch of threads already answering your question...but then the search didn't work
see thats what you get for being a smart ***. i think molded would look good on the Bird. When we fixing the waves?
Every set of lakes pipes I've ever seen have been total Chinese/Taiwanese garbage. You would be better off making your own out of stainless steel.
Nice attempt at being a smart ***, better luck next time... Nads, I think thats about the way all the "stainless" is anymore, since i lack the time and the modivation with this turd. Im just going to buy a set Thanks for the help...
I'll go double for that. They're all ****. Chrome lasts about as long as it took you to mount them and hook them up. Complete ****. I don't know if they still sell them, but Moon used to sell stainless ones. Not exactly cheap, but not too expensive either. I can't remember what I paid for a set, but this was about 5 years ago. VERY good quality. AND, with being stainless, you can tig weld brackets on the back of them without worrying about screwing up an already ****ty chrome job. Try that on regular lakes and you're chrome is done. Or, yeah, you could make some. Thinwall stainless tubing from a plumbing or piping supply house.
I kicked around the idea of making a set out of 1" or 1" 1/4 copper, I still havent thrown out that idea yet..
I use copper pipe every day at work, 1" and 1 1/4" is pretty small. I'd go with at least 1 1/2 or 2 inch. Copper could be pretty sweet! Its simple as hell to bend when its heated up cherry red. It polishes right back up with sandpaper, and when you finally get them on your ride, hit them with some rattle can clear every once in a while to keep them from turning green. Could be really cool! Different too. They do make flanges for copper also, lightweight ones that you could use to fab up some caps for if you plan on having a set of mufflers too.
Yeah i am going to run caps as well i was thinking about using something like a service cap. It looks about like a lake pipe cap. The reasons for the smaller pipe is that if im running lakes they will be live or they are kinda like ***s on a boar. That small of pipe gets a pretty mean crack and cackel. With the big FE in front of it should help. The car is low from the start i am going lower even yet so i dont want to get the pipes too close to the ground with out having to bang out dents from the pipes Also i have surplus here at the day job from running water services. I need to work in a city that uses 1 1/2 LOL The car is am shooting i think it was watsons 59 bird. but striping the out sides of the while scalops in a copper color to bring out the flake. I think i should look pretty good when she is all finished
hey, if its free, go for it! I use copper all day long at work too, I'm a Pipefitter. We've got an abundance of Type L 1 1/2 on up to 6 inch.

I dont think untill spring unless something changes. I have a few goodies to finish with the drive line. I need to finish the stich work on the dash and lower doors and finish smacking the body around..
