no, the lincoln shoud be the BIG flathead. 337ci or something along those lines, if its original. Check the dizzy, if its at the rear of the engine its a lincoln, at the front? ford/merc.
is it hard to get parts for one of these and what is a lincoln flattie worth i dont want to pay to much for a boat anchor
There are absolutely no parts that interchange with a Ford or Merc flathead 8. The Lincoln 337 flattie was only used from 1949 - 1951 It was also used in Ford F7 and F8 trucks, but with solid lifters. Edmunds did make an intake and heads. Edelbrock made heads too. One rodders figured out how heavy the motor was, any horsepower gain was not really worth it-
Running a Lincoln Flatty would be like the guys that run a Caddy Flatty or an old Study V8 or Nash/Rambler V8 all you'll gain is a cool looking car that will make people take a second look! Now you heard the story of the Hot Rod race when the Ford & Mercury were setting the pace........ what was that guy driving???? Oh Ya! Model A with a Lincoln Motor (Johnny Bond not Commander Cody).
I wouldn't dump it, actually I'd love to have one for my AV8, and I have a complete stock, low miles 8CM Merc motor for it... I'd run it if it was mine, they look pretty sweet. As far as power, I'd get the cam reground and make some headers (maybe clean up the ports), but other than that I wouldn't worry about it. Lets be honest, if we were REALLY concerned that much with big HP we wouldn't be talkin' flattys anyhow. Even my 4" stroke Merc will be lucky to get even in the neighborhood of 200 horsepower. Run it and enjoy how damn cool it'd look.
With a reground cam, it should do well. I know someone makes multicarb setups for them Austin something. Mill the heads and you should get a good, honest, 180-200 HP.
