We're chopping a 50 Merc for a customer at the shop. The car had a vinyl top on it sometime in the 70's- early 80's. It left lots of pits and nail holes in the roof. We're going to have to address that after the chop. Anyways, we took 4" out of the roof... Here's the car...
leaning the b pillars still have to reshape the quarter windows and do the door frames, and add some filler pieces
looks good. I dont envy you since completing the metal on mine. Keep us updated. Nice flow by the way.
Wasn't a vinyl top an option on Mercurys for at least one year? Don't know that I've ever seen one but I've heard it's true.
It was...and I always thought they looked a little weird. Not sure on the years, I think I remember seeing a stock '51 with one. In fact, I think the Franklin Mint made a model of it. Chop looks great by the way!!!!!!!
Monterey in '51 had a vinyl roof..I've got a very rough one,and it still has the metal strip across the top a few inches behind the windshield to attach the material
how do you tell the Monterey model on the mercs? just out of curiosity... also we took 4" up front and around 5 out back. Still lots to do.
i love lookin at these pics rite up until you start leaning the b pillars!! that part of the job to me is the most aggravating to me!! you making it look easy thomas
What's this about Thomas - you are part of/working at a shop? I thought you were a computer geek. Is this something you have going on the side, or a new carrer path? The chop is looking nice by the way...the 1/4 window has the perfect taper.
yea, we haven't got to that part of the chop yet. The rear quarters need to be shaped, door tops need to go on, then the fun part... GARNISH MOULDINGS. We did lots more today. I'll post pics in a bit Cleatus, a couple buddies from Sacramento moved out here and we opened up a shop together. I'm still doing the ATM stuff as a regular job for now...but cars is always my p***ion.
