    no one builds a merc like Sam. no one. why try? Sorry that my photoshop skills aren't best, but... I'd screw all rules and traditions when it comes to mercs. 4 door merc, lengthen the trunk and quarters, shave the rear handles, m***ive body section, park it on it's ***. Done and done. Enough to make any merc enthusiast cry, cool enough to make everyone look.

    P.S. No I didn't forget to chop it by mistake.

    Mmmm the Mercs above are tasty. I've seen a bunch that are good, a few not so good. My buddy's mild black `49 is oh so fine. Thing is there would'nt be an sbc anywhere near a Merc I owned. If it were'nt a Flatty it'd get one of these......

    I think the basic oldschool would be the start of the perfect merc,But the new stuff on honda and the likes could have its place, frenched in and built to your taste, there is no end to the road you can take.I am not a tuner guy but i do like many of the new things the kids are doing today..

  11. What the chop the snot out of em and lower em till the ants are scared gang doesn't seem to realize is that 49-51 Mercs - with the 49 & 50's being the most popular - were also built as hot rods back in the day.

    Nosed and decked in most cases, lowered a reasonable amount and best of all, runnin' a killer engine.

    Why not do something like that instead of knocking out another knockoff?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    I have an old story about hot rod Mercs, I'll see if I can find it.
    A little dusting and it oughta work as a separate post.
    I am of the school that mercs need to be chopped. To me it just doesn't look right if its not. I would also agree with C9, nosed and decked, dropped and probably give it a west coast slant.
  13. Bryan, send me a pic, I know some of the things you like... What are you two brewing up there?
    I hear a lot of "Glad to see one of them that's not chopped" in my travels.
    Thanks for asking 30roadster:rolleyes: :D
    Well let’s see. 174 hood louvers. 4 ’53 Chevy grilles mated to the ’53 bar with dummy spots turned backwards on the ends. Shaved handles, nosed & decked. Gene Winfield tail lights for a ’46 thru ’48 Ford frenched. Headlights and parking lights frenched. ( I like the non-tunneled frenched headlights on the ’49 & ’50’s; tunneled on the ‘51’s) Fatman front spindles w/1-1/2” lowering blocks and Posies rear springs w/3” blocks. Bumpers lowered 1” front and rear. ’55 Chevy side trim shortened and upside down (puts the fat part at the bottom.) Coker radials with Vintiques wheels/caps. Been painted 8 years and starting to show some wear ‘cause I drive it about 4 to 5K each year.
    Where do you buy deadend magazine at????
    Guess I'm not hip? Don't know where to get it???
    I would have a un-chopped Merc. bagged, painted black, white interior, tan gauges and a *****in' flathead, can't say I'd run anything but that???
    The perfect Merc for me would have the Buick swoop side trim, it would be cream under the swoop and deep gloss black on top. the drivetrain would be ardun equipped blown flathead with an Overdive manual ******. Top chopped 4 inches with Wire impregnated safety glas on all windows except the front. Louvered hood 90's caddy tailights frenched in the fenders and 50's Buick tooth grill. I even kind of dig the duel headlight setup on this one.
    Can't say that I understand all of your posts, but I sure as heck understand your Merc. I would have to say your Merc, Hegmans Merc and the Hirohata are my ideas of the coolest Mercs. If I had the time, my old Merc would have been darn near a twin to yours, beautiful job. This was at El Mirage with my son and my old girl.
    I would re do my 50's style one and go 60's, more chop and a section. I'd copy the canted quad treatment Winfield did on a couple of his cars.
