After seeing all the vintage pictures being posted of real hotrods from the '40s at the lakes I decided to get off my ass and post some pics of my recently finished '30 Model A sports Coupe AV8. Some of you remember about 10-11 months ago when I bought this old Hot rod from a backyard in Santa Barbra where it sat since '58. It had old White walls on the V8 wires shown, chrome dash and garnish, Red 'n' white tuck/roll int. '32 head lights, '36 spare tire cover. Hopped up banger motor. We did the V8 as direct bolt in Flathead conversion and I will be happy to share how we did it. We did NOT cut or modify the fire wall, used stock unsplit '32 bones, '32 pedals slightly modified. Everyone that sees the car comments how it looks as if it originally was built with a V8. I will also say that the Tardel book was not much help since all measurements in that book are way off. Basically we bolted up the clam shell from the trans to the torque tube since that part was stationary, then mounted the K member from there. Here are some basics: 1940 59A bone stock with the exception of Fenton headers and Edmunds Air cleaner. Thanks Creeper larry for the Flathead! '39 Box with stock Model A rear end. 1940 juice brakes front and rear. Hand made motor mounts with a Tardel Crossmember. The car is hell of alot of fun! I want to publicly thank Mikey and Little Joe and my club the Lifters for all the support and parts. Enjoy the pics of El Mirage at the November Speed Meet. Tex
Thanks guys! This is my first flathead V8 and I am already thinking about putting one in my '32 coupe. The sound through a set of Fenton headers is music to my ears. They don't make much power, but for a light weight Model A it is about right. The car moves pretty good. I will try and get some pics from the under side that is the best because it looks all factory with the K-member and unsplit bones, '32 pedals. It all looks like Henry built it that way. Sorry for going on, but I am excited about the car. Tex
I have a soft spot for the A sport coupes. One of the first real traditional rods I saw was a 60's perfect A Coupe that a local guy has, done up in yellow with a white top and a wicked chop. Being an 18 year old without the cash to hand over for any model of real "hot rod" material, I've made a point of having my first, full-blown project being an A Sport Coupe. They're just damn wicked! Now I just need to earn some money! I love the pictures of yours, and the story of how it came together. The images are saved to my folder for El Mirage shots, and I think I'll even put one as my desktop background for a while! Cheers, and happy holidays. -Gregory-
Cool looking cars would love to see more pictures and info!! I have a buddy that just got a 28-29 and this post is just what he needs thanks John
I would be happy to post some more pics of the build once I get them off my old computer. We built it in about 4 months just working weekends mainly. My Sport Coupe is going to get a factory wood kit and Black canvas top. My buddy Mikey has the '28 fenderless coupe. He has a hood on it to hide the sins of the SBC, but he drives it everywhere. It is his basic transportation when it is not raining. If anyone has any questions about how to do this the V8 swap PM me and will give you the info. Tex
