do 56/57 caddi caps attach the same. are there any threads on this subject? search seems to not be working right now. im putting them on a 51 merc and will be using ford small star bolt patern and will need to get a different set of rims. will the cap fit any 15" steelie?
Do you have a set of 56 hubcaps, because they are really deep. I was going to use a set on my 41 but you would have to go with a reversed rim or custom offset to get the cap to fit. I didn't have enough room in my fender to make this work, so I went with a set of 57 caps and they fit just like anyother cap I have used.
I have used 57 Caddy caps on numerous 15" wheels (all GM, but shouldn't matter) from a 55 Chev wheel to a Wheel Vintique smoothie with no problems. Depth can be an issue, something to check, but otherwise attachment works.
ok so heres the lowdown. had to find out myself. 56 caps are cheap and plentifull and just as custom as a 57, i happen to like them just as well, can get them cheap and always able to find one if some ass cobs em. 57 caps are out fricken priced and not very plentifull. i went to summit racing today and about pissed them off pulling rims out and checking fitment of the 56 cap. heres the deal, Aero racing wheels for roundy round cars, 15 x 7, black, and 3.50" backspacing and at 44.95 a copy. part # AEO-50-174535. hope this helps, sure helped me?????????????
far as I can tell they attach the same but the 56 caps are MUCH MUCH deeper. Probably 200%. That's why the 57's are so hot. They look pretty much the same as the 56's but fit many many more wheels. I have 7 cherry 56 caps and I can't run them on my 53 caddy. From what I can tell they fit early 60's caddy wheels so there's a chance I'll run those and run my 56 caps...I like the deepness of them. Look sick with bullets. I think the 57's are about the same debth of my 59's so maybe I'll take a picture of one of my 59 caps next to a 56 this weekend.
Here is a photo to see how deep the 56's are compaired to the 57's and a pic of the clips on the 57's
