I know this may sound stupid, but..... Do 56 Chevrolet sedans have garnish moldings around the rear window?......
IN 1956, all 56 Chevrolets, including the 150, had the stainless trim on the outside that fit in the groove in the windshield and the backlight (rear windshield) rubber, and they all had interior trim (what is commonly called garnish molding) around the back glass. The 55 150 did not have the stainless trim in the rubber around the windshield and backlight, but it did have the garnish molding around those pieces in the interior. So to answer your question, yes.
I assume you're talking about the INTERIOR mouldings around the rear back glass. I know '55 did and I know that '57 didn't. Ya' had to stick the headliner under the the window gasket in '57. Do a search here for that info, because I think is was discussed a couple of times before. So your question isn't a stupid one, it's a common one, especially for folks that have a car that was already disassembled. I have an original '56 setting in my mini-junkyard. If ya' don't get an answer, send me a note and next time I'm there I'll look at it.
I think he is asking about the inside of the rear window. I believe that the headliner gets tucked in to the rear glass rubber.
Accrding to my book, wich I went and got out. The 56-150 also had minimal side trim. 55 had none, except for the Chevrolet script on the fender.
I was trying to find this out also a couple of years back because I wanted them in my 56. I met a guy at a car show that salvaged 55-56-57 Chevies and he said all the 55's had them and he saw a couple of 57's with the interior mouldings but never saw a 56 with it originally.Maybe it depends upon where they were built.
if you believe the parts books, 55 sedans had rear window garnish moldings, but 56-57 did not. 1x11 is a 2dr sedan, 1x19 is a 4 door sedan, 1037 is the two door hardtop
Jeez, half you guys don't know what garnish mouldings are. He's talking about the shit on the inside. Pretty sure '56's did not have that, as stated.
I just spent some time looking at several dozen 56 sedans on the internet. Most did not have garnish moldings around the back window (which would have gone across the top and down the sides), though a few did. It's likely that someone added it, either from a 55, or from a Pontiac (55-57)
well i hope you are talking about the INSIDE rear window the answer is no. the back window has the rubber showing and no painted parts around the window, the head liner is tucked under the rubber weatherstrip and there are small peices that kinda extend the headliner to the package tray, these are held in place by the rubber and the side window interior moulding. as for the outside, yes it did have the stainless trim. Dave 56 chevy 210 Sedan,
My dad has a '56 210 sedan that we bought from the original owner in 1982 to be my first car. The car was (still is) 100% original- and it has inside garnish moldings running down both sides inside next to the rear glass. My one-owner '56 150 did not have that trim inside, but the rear glass was the one thing not installed when I got it.
my 56 210 does NOT have interior garnish moldings on the back glass,,thats what the rear window seal is there for,,,
Thanks for this info..... I bought my 56 disassembled and now that we're getting ready for paint and interior I needed to know......I'm going to go the no back garnish molding route.......the car is getting color on Tuesday..... I'll post pics sometime soon.... thanks again fellers......Dennis
