I ONLY drag home junk... Before. After. Here's the stude.. Here she is done. The Merc. Not done yet.... -Abone.
my 27 was kinda junk but it is the first time I've ever worked sheet metal that you could see from outside of a car. Didn't think it could get much worse. .
All those cars would be sold in Minnesota as " Solid car, some surface rust, restoration started " Doc
I got a model a coupe for free when I was 18. It was hanging on the wall of a barn in pieces. It was rusted farther than the avalible patch panels. I built it into a nice hotrod. It was finished in 92. I dont have pics but it was rough. Complete bottom had to be made. I had to go to shows and ask guys if I could measure thier car, and take notes.
i remember that the cars guys are building today were passed on because they were only good for parts...back in the 60's and 70's. I guess there were better cars to choose from then..
This is my kinda post. I might not be much, but I can polish the hell out of a turd. Heres a few before and afters.
Jim: I have been watching you projects for a while and you make some unbelievable good work. This is the roughest i´ve ever started with, still in progress though. This was the another one, worked pretty hard with it but recently sold as a project.
I bought a big ol' '41 ford farm truck just for the cab. it looked good on the guys farm but when I got it home i found it had been repaired with agricultural tech; that is a half inch or more of Bondo on most of the cab. I cut off the lower 6-8" all the way across the rear of the cab, took out the entire floor, had to buy another pair of doors that "only" needed the lower 10" replaced, they were better than the ones that came with the cab. The lower edge of the side ahead of the doors had to be rebuilt since it wasn't there. the lower front door posts had to be replced up aboout 8", I got lucky there and got the first set off the press from a guy right here in Michigan, before that no one made that repair piece. Then when i got the cowl vent open I found I had to rebuild about half the gutter around it. The rockers were gone so i had to have some of those made because they weren't available at that time...but the firewall was pretty nice
Did you buy those quarters on Ebay a couple of few years ago??? I remember seeing a pair like that on there and wondering what was the guy who bought them ever going to do with them. Now I know. Absolutely beautiful work.
My first '53 Chevy. It was a 210 2 door sedan I bought when I was 23, and its best attribute was that it ran (barely). Anyone from NY knows about rust and rot, and this baby had it in spades. I learned all about gas welding patch panels, and making what panels weren't available. I limped it home on three cylinders--it had a burnt exhaust valve in #5, and a chunk of head gasket gone between #2 and #3. At least 235s are so simple to work on that I cured that problem the first day I had it home!
I dont have any before pics. Nobody (including me) thought it was worth saving or even good for parts. Here is a pic later in the build, finished!
I am working on a 34 stude 3 window coupe right now and it needs the bottom 10'' all the way around and to top it off... it has laid on its side for a while......I will take some pics later.... Great pics and stories ...keep'em comming
I brought this old wreck back from the dead a couple years ago and drove the shit out of it all summer. It's currently been deported and is going through an intense rehab program in Canada!!
'57 Chevy with rotted floors and rockers (Bottom four inches of car was gone). Replaced floor braces, floors, rockers, trunk, rear bumper filler and firewall. Car came into the shop for a repaint and when we pulled the carpets....the floor came with it. Someone had laid fiberglass on the floorpans and put the carpet back before it was cured. Took a best in show this season.
my 31 Desoto was pretty bad when i got it, still have to make a few patch panels for the cowl but i have it pretty well sorted out now after the chop pretty much where it sits now, may not look like much but its a start, and it took alot to get it just to this point need to get off my ass and finish this one, havent made any progress on it in over a month.
I'd have to say it's the one I'm working on now. It was channeled over a home made frame with some kind of Dodge front suspension and a 100" wheelbase. The quarters had galvanized patches brazed in and the cowl bottoms were cut off and bent inwards. The trunk was filled in with 3/16" plate and the firewall and floor were also made of the same material. It's still got a way to go.
Yeah and I got to ride in the stude for a "terrorize the neighborhood" moment. that thing hauls ASS!!
todds "51 ratts" 51 chevy "ladykiller"(now harms ways). had some serious issues, we never really fixed alot of them, we just kinda put it on life support! hehe
