Viva Las Vegas - Roll Call and psych-up

Okay so I am sitting in my living room hemmin and hawing
about Vegas. Not sure if I should go because I started
a new job, taking the time off, potentially loosing some
income cause I don't have enough vacation accrued...blah
blah blah. </font>


Then my girlfriend says.....
"Why don't we pop in that Viva Las Vegas DVD I made last year?"

[she is a videographer, and we video taped last year
and put together a DVD for our friends]

Seeing that reminded me of how much fun I had. And last
year I was out of work, my car ran so-so, I had absolutely
no money and I drove the 58 Ranchero anyway (green and
white if you remember it). We are $.75 hotdogs all weekend
and I had the biggest blast of my life.

So I don't want to hear any whining.....get off your ****s,
fix your car, stop drinking for the month of March and
save your $$$ and get to Vegas. Especially if you have
never been.

Here are a couple quotes to get you in the mood......

Some very, very confused looking old broad on Sunday
just outside the bingo hall: "What's going on around
here !?!? everyone here looks like the Fonz!"

The elevator doors open and 3 VLV roomates spill out,
pleading (successfully) to a Betty: "C'mon...come to
our room. We'll have a great time! We got ice!" to
which she responds "That's good, 'cause I got
everything else you need!"

Cruisin' the strip on friday night some cabby pulls
up along side of me and asks "where's the time machine??
I want to go back!!"

one girl to anouther after leaving the dance floor...
"is my eyebrow still on?"

Walking through the main bar in the casino at the GC.
One girl saying to another and pointing "not THAT girl
with the bangs, the other one!"

 

I watched some video of it a few weeks ago and that got me wound up.

I can't wait!

 

There will be 10 of us, with 5 to 7 cars. Not a single car is ready yet, but all the guys are busting *** to make sure we'll be there.

'62 Caddy Park Avenue - needs bags (it was there last year)
'25 Chrysler - full steering rebuild, new cam, and 500 other things (it was there last year)
'44 BSA (The Hoover) - needs to be loaded into a truck (it was there last year)
'55 Nash Amb***ador - minor electrical tweeks, bunch of other ****
'55 Ford - bunch of little ****
'22 T bucket - 2/3 built, 1/3 to go
'53 Plymouth Savoy - if the motor swap can be done in time...
'48 F2 - 99.92% stock, no vacation time damnit

My '97 Dodge chase truck, with tools and ice chests full of beer.

Me and the wife will be there, don't know if I'll make the drive, can't really take that much time off, so we may just fly....

 

there should be about 6 of us there cant wait. This time its going to be all car show for my wife &amp; I and no partying since we are strolling around our new baby girl, but at least I get to go for Sat. car show.. I am just not sure about driving down the little bambino in the Galaxie. I dont like the thought of being broke down with her.. even though I drive it everyday and have gone to Vegas the last 3 years in it with no problems.. maybe I will.

 

Mrs. buzzard and I are flyin' in. Haven't been in a couple of years. Should be a blast.

 

What's the date on it this year???

I attended a few years back, but I wasn't quite greaserbilly enough for most of the crowd there, so I got the "we're so much cooler than you" vibe from a bunch of people, but Oh well...I had a pretty good time anyway!

Alright... That's what I thought... Looks like I won't be able to make it then... I'll be in vegas the first week of May for the APP convention. When I attended last time they had the APP in April as well, but not this time!?!

Hey all- come by my booth if you've got wristbands and say hi! I'll be there shooting b&amp;w portraits ALL weekend, no party for me! I would LOVE to meet some more HAMB-ers in person, the people we've met are my favorite part of the Viva Weekend.

Mr. KitKat is a Damn Longhair, but he enjoys the hell outa himself at Viva and ignores all the "you're not one of us" BS pretty well. I think its really ironic how exclusive and insider-y, "outsider" cultures can be. I've gotten it from punks, goths, bikers, rockers, swingsters, rockabillies..... Just cuz I dont look like ya, doesnt mean I don't get ya.

Me too!!! maybe that's my problem... but if they had hairspary/gel strong enough I could have one hell of a pompadour!!!
In addition to the long hair, according to a lot of "old" people, I must have been involved in some "freak tackle box explosion"!!!
So I guess I'm not anywhere even CLOSE to being a rockasilly; I just like old cars!
(although some of those rockasilly girls are good to look at!!! )

I can't wait. I don't do the 'scene' too well (although I certainly can appreciate it), but I have a helluva great time at VLV. Fortunately, the Shifters put on a damn good show. Even though it's officially only Saturday, action in the parking lot never stops. Because of that, you don't need much money to attend.

I don't have ~much~ more to do before going. Haaaaaa.

...and I'm the ******* HAMB beer fairy. So if you're broke and thirsty between .75 hot dogs, find me.

The problem is that the cop was so busy taking exception to things that weren't illegal that he was totally blind to all the blazing infractions that were right in front of his face.

Kinda leaves a guy unmotivated to fix the illegal stuff, now don't it?

Me and the boys got to talkin' about if my car was all painted candy and dunked in billet, how the cop would have acted. I mean, I left it exposed 'cause there are a lot of folks who actually build their own **** that can appreciate a rolling unfinished piece. The cops though? NFW

So, I'm gonna paint it. Nothing glossy, no billet - I'm just gonna try to make it so they'll take it a little more seriously (hard to say with a straight face). It's not gonna be clean by any stretch. You can't hide a hack job under a mile of paint. But it might look more 'together'.

<shrug> We'll give it a shot.

My girlfriend and I and her cute single friend are flying in on Wednesday night. We leave at 11:30 on Saturday night, gotta be back for Easter morning for the kids. Hope to meet some HAMBers.

I ignore all the smirks, everybody gets them. But I'm used to the stares anyway.

 

I'll be rollin there for wednesday-monday with a bunch of friends from Seattle. Lots of other locals from Vancouver will be goin aswell. Hope I get the chance to meet some HAMBERS. If there's a HAMBERS meet, let me know....i'm there.

 

i won't be able to make it, but was planning on it this year since i've never been. hope you guys get some nice photos of the cars and whatnot. have fun!!
