I remember thrashin in hopes of getting my Galaxie ready for the trip and seeing threads popping up as early as November last year. I haven't seen anyone mention it this year yet. I'm starting to look forward to it more than Christmas morning.
I was just talking about the RoundUp with a friend tonight. We're trying to remember what the name of the motel/hotel is across the street from the Continental Club, the one that Steve (ElJefe) owns I believe. I'm flying in again and it would make it so much easier to stay there as opposed to someplace I'd have to drive to after the evenings festivities. Any ideas? I wanna make reservations now.
Hotel San José 1316 S. Congress Ave. (James St. W.) Austin, TX 78704 512-444-7322 $75 - 165 They actually showed it on Great Hotels on the Travel Channel with Sandra Brown.
i was just talking about how much im looking forward to it this year. seems like every year i start thinking about it earlier and ealier.
I'm trying to get my coupe done in time and Skratch is building a car and we might do a Cannon ball Race to texas!! no joke..
In beween the Tortis and the Hare there's a Pussy whose ass get's sore just driving 4 hrs to Paso. (me) Just wondering how long it takes doing let say 75mph in a bouncy ass 5000lb car. I guess you would take the 10fwy from So Cal all the way through..right?
i was wanting to go to the roundup this year but, my buddies decided they wanna go to viva. too rich for my blood. anyone near indiana goin?
I'm pretty sure I'm driving if my Boattail is done. I was planing 3 days to get there. First leg LA-Phoenix, second leg Phoenix-El Paso, third leg El Paso-Austin. 1400 miles one way. Anybody else going?
from So-Cal I-10 will be the way to go... but you may wanna bring some extra gas and water just in case, cuase there arent alot of service staions on the way.....my 54 will be ready by then..
We're driving from Wichita. I think it's like a 10-12 hour drive, though, I'm not sure. I wonder how much gas it takes at 10 miles per gallon. we're great environmentalists
Looks like I'll have a V8 by then (because I have to, not cause I want to), but probably no Astros like I planned . Who knows? Should be going over the paint again (more wet sand/ clear coat/ candy)...
Should be leaving Phoenix in the AM Wednesday. Hopefully I can drag out some more folks from around here. This will be my third Round UP and my fourth trip to go hang out with the Kontinentals. The first being a trip to do Day of the Drags. That year a friend of mine drove my old man's 30 A coupe with a 283, Powerglide and 4.11:1 gears! We managed 15+ MPG out of it with a 16 gallon tank and had only ran out of gas once because he wasn't paying as much attention to his gas stops as he should have.
Hey SoCal folks, I'm planning on driving to this too! It's one of the "things to do" check-list item for me. Ken
any nor cal guys wanna do the iron ass trip...leaving wednesday in th AM gettin there thursday night I hope..gotta get a 5 sp. behind the 235 first!
I've been taking advantage of the slow time between Christmas and New Years to do as much work on my Apache as I can. I'm hoping to have her road worthy by Round Up, and drive up to Auston from Houston in style.... Got the busted shock mount bracket rivits ground off and painted the "new" bracked which is ready to bolt on. It should be quite and improvement in ride quality to have two front shocks. Pulled everything off the front of the block, removed and painted the radiator, pulled the intake, unbolted the headers, took off valve covers, and started to pull heads off, when my GF called me at the shop and demanded I take her out to dinner last night. Tonight I'm fixin' to finish pulling the old heads, put on new heads, cam, lifters, rods, timing set, degree the cam, put on new intake, bolt headers and valve covers back on, put radiator back in, put on water pump, reattach everything, put on new starter, new front shocks.... (OK, I'm dreamin' but a man's reach should exceed his grasp or what is a heaven for...)
My goal was to have the 38 ready for the Roundup which I still could but thank God customer work has gotten me slammed and I also have to build a swing set kit that I got my kids for CHristmas. I think the last year about killed me anyway. I would rather help somoene else thrash this year too. Rusty
I will be driving with El'P in my coupe already got the days off from work and coupe should make it with no problems I will just need to pay attention to the gas stop so there is not a repeat of last year even though I did not go.
Hotel San Jose, and Austin Motel were both already booked up at the beginning of December. We're at the Homestead again. Hopefully they won't lose our reservations like last year. I still have a huge list of stuff I've been meaning to do to the Rivi to take it to the next level. Lots of little stuff that adds up.
This will be my third Roundup since I moved to Austin and its the coolest thing to happen to my little pinheaded world..If I can get my gas tank figgered out I will be cruising my 48 Studebaker three window..If I can be of any help please let me know....rixrex
me and my buddies were in the same boat last year at the homestead. those sons of bitches must have take way too many reservations or something.
