My Brother's Grand Parent In-Law's (if that makes any sense) gave him their 53 Chevy 3100 that they used to make deliveries with when they owned a hardware store. I went over to help him load it up and found all sorts of neat old barnfresh stuff along with a healthy dose of the history of the city. The Truck has around 70k on the odometer and the car you see below has around 50k. Both were bought brand new and has been in the family ever since. My brother is planning to restore it to the original hardware delivery style with a few kustom touches. Here are some pictures: The truck still in its slumber: The car (49 Deluxe) also still sleeping (will probably remain this way for quite awhile longer unfortunately): Some artsy pictures of a sweet old gas pump, some extra tires for the truck, and some old school milk bottles.
Continued.... Getting it out of the barn, which was an adventure in itself: What's left of the stickers on the bed: After a trip to the power wash for its first bath since the late 60's: Finally a neat picture of my truck and my bothers truck, exactly 50 years between the two. Notice the 60's era weldless panel repair...
That is soooooooooo cool. He is a very lucky man. Why is the 49 not getting relieved of it's slumber?
I forgot there are so many bike fans on this site... It's not the same bike as the one in the picture with the tires but this one was equally as cool. It's a inner family political thing. Originally he wanted the car and our plan was to build the 49 and my 50 ford together and cruise our familes in but his actual inlaws decided they wanted the car even though its been rotting for 30 years. I think the intrest in that car will eventually die out and he'll get that one too. Plus we can hone our skills on the truck and do the car real justice. The whole thing was just a great experiance, a history lesson that I will never forget.
Damn!!! Can I say that here? Damn nice score.... Leave that paint and drive it! Restore that old Schwinn while you are at it.
Nice score ! I would go through the drivetrain, brakes, and put the letterring back on it and leave it alone. CBB
...that's a nice pickup, even has the rare hood ornament. I like those weldless repairs !...someone did a nice job on em. Get it back on the road but leave the tin/paint alone. That barn was full of cool stuff, nice finds!
****.............Why does my dreams always have to be somebody elses reality? Take your score and make good of it. I hope to see ya smiling somewhere down the road.
Some south/west state guys are gonna think that truck is rough, it's actually remarkably good for a truck that lived in Michigan its whole life!!!! Nice find
SWEEEEEET!!! But I hate when folks just let old cars rot... If they're not going to love it, hand it off to someone who will. And that gas pump... THAT would make some awsome home decor! Good luck with the project! Hope we see more pics as it progresses.
Nice Score! That's the only way I know of to make a U-Haul trailer look good. Put an old car or truck on it!
I agree, I was amazed when we started really looking it over it was really solid for a Michigan car. The normal things have rot through, like the cab corners and some other odds and ends but you could instantly see that Grandpa maintained his stuff really well, he even went ahead and replaced the rotting wood floor in the bed with some diamond plate circa early 60's. I think disc brakes in the front and getting the ole Babbit Pounder running are the next items to tackle. I think either the rear brakes are locked up or maybe the parking brake was applied and the cable rusted so it was locked on... moving it was an adventure. I have my eyes on that gas pump even if I have to buy it. Grandma mentioned a sale in the summer so hopefully I can ****** it up and make it my own. Thanks for all the compliments, I'll forward this link onto my brother so he can see all the positive comments about it... Not that he needed any more inspiration to get it going. He'll or I'll keep updates with pictures going stong and I'll even try to pull some pictures of the other bike. Thanks guys!
