  5. I'll keep an eye on it. The altered is a long way from being done and I doubt I'll ever run sponsored so that's gonna pretty much leave me out of the points race but I can still go watch when its close enough to make the trip.

Didn't go look for your intro so welcome to the HAMB.

Whats nostalgic about state of the art fibergalss Willys and wings on Mustangs?? Not knockin you guys but Nostalgic??

  8. My grandson gave me insight into the meaning of nostalgia when on his third day of kindergarten, he said, "I miss the good old days."

  9. WOW! This is really GREAT! I like seeing the "good" kinds of drag cars I remember from a few years back - in the 60's! (seeing Jap ---- stuff on the drag strip is like being handed a flat warm beer, somethings are better avoided) My son also likes the "good" cars as well. It would be worth a trip when they run in K.C. just to take in that event! Also, I don't care if the Willys' are fibergl***. It's the next best thing as I have not seen any metal ones laying around anywhere waiting to be fixed up.They just have that certain something about them with that style. :D

While some can build a true nostalgia car within the limits of safety, not all can. The cages, harness requirements, wheelbase, etc seem to dictate what runs anymore. While I'd also love to see a genuine "Winged Express" make a p*** I'm afraid that the lack of bars, constructed of muffler tubing(!) and cut off steering wheel make it an accident waiting to take a life. Why not back then? Tires. Tires alone are a good enuff reason to keep em safe. They just didn't hook with the violence we can get today. I'd much rather look at a newer FED than the cavalcade of bracket REDs that dominate most events. Running in the 7s is pretty intense. I'll always vote safe.

No electronics,, shift when ya feel it,, not when the light says to,, or letting it shift itself. No rev limiters either!

No bodies newer than 79, no Rear engine cars.

Altereds FEDs and Real funny car bodies!

The Stardust body is an original 72 fuel funny car body, not a repop! This is as nostalgic as it gets and still be certified to even get on the track!

Some of the "Good Old Days" cannot be replicated, cause it just not safe. Ask anyone who raced these cars back in the day and they will tell you that they wouldn't even think about runnin some of that stuff now!

What's missing from the nostalgia funny cars, is the blower whine. I saw my first funny car race at the California HRR in probably 30 years. While they looked pretty much like the old days, they didn't have the 30% overdrive blower noise, and the explosions at half-track.

Once I saw the funnies get into the 5's though, I knew it was pretty much over. Same as nostalgic dragster. It's down to just a three team circuit, and everyone else is just there for the $5 hot dogs...

Not really, the team I crew for was #1 qualifier at every event this year, and we have no budget, no sponsers and still finished second in the points. We book 3-4 match races a year and that is what pays for our racing for the year. Luckily we didn't tear up too much or the season gets real short.

  14. Actually you can come close to replicateing a tru nostalgia Altered. You you still need better restraints and a few more bars in you ch***is but if you start with the real deal you can build one.

Probably won't be real competative with the later style altered builds but that won't take the fun away from building and driveing it. And there is the added benefit of being a popular drawing card with the fans. I mean face it what would you rather watch run one that just wizzes by or one that the driver is actually fighting every last inch of the 1320.

Sometimes its not about winning at all its about the amount of fun to be had while you're at it. You haven't lived until you made a p*** in a tru bad mannered hang onto your *** Altered. Hell I've had way more fun in a 9 second you gotta drive it car than anyone will ever have in a 7 second point n shoot modern dragster.

Anyway like I said I'll check it out. Looks like fun to me.
