I started out at a bodyshop owned by a mexican family.....no money, but lots of great eats every day. Isaac (father and shop owner) never had any money due to his huge family, and their even bigger appetites, would save every part......he couldn't stand giving money to the parts man. I watched him cut a destroyed, and I mean fuckin wasted, quarter panel off a 60 caddy, lay it on the concrete floor, hammer it for a couple days, weld it back on, give it a thin skim coat of bondo, and it looked great. Saved the panel, and some precious greenbacks. He told me the panel is just metal.....it doesn't have a brain...we do. Smart guy with a fifth grade education.

I'd love to fix that three window, just for the challenge. And do it Isaacs way.

I just heard about that car this morning. Only licensed autobody rebuilders have access to the site to bid on it. I know one guy who is tossing around the idea of buying it to fix. I know I'd have that ribbed roof cut out in a heartbeat, and I'd drop kick those side mirrors. What do you think it'll sell for? If I hear, I'll let you know.

The fellow who sent me the photos wanted my opinion on the value and if it could be fixed. I said sure ... anything can be fixed with enough time and money. It could be saved ... and I hope it is ... but if you bid very much, it will not be cost effective. My friend wants to part out all the 1-800 Gold Chainer stuff and end up with the 3W body on cheap $$$ . He told me it in Canada so he knew I would not try and get a 32 that torn up ... that far from the Southland. :D

  4. dunno which car was the safest to be in
looks as tho the bumper saved some ones ass in the sedan
gotta be the shiny wheels that got these two in trouble

Who cares if it was a gold chainer car? That was his pride and joy. I know he's sick about it and I hope he didn't get hurt too bad.

Just imagine if that was your Dads car....would you be making fun then?

That thing looks like it accidently fell off the trailer going to the next billet-weekend.

  10. Not a lot of trailer cars in the Vancouver area. They drive them lots and usually in the rain, no matter how pretty they are. Most have made the trek to California on their own tires, at least most of the high dollar ones. Pat.

Anytime an original body gets trashed it's a bad thing, hopefully it 's next life will be better for it!

I hope no one got hurt there. In my opinion that `32 FORD got destroyed the moment they hung all those chevrolet parts on it. Sorry.

Man...I can't believe that thing went for $20k Canadian, what's that, about $15k US? There was a similar wrecked 32 steel 3W on ebay about 6 months ago, maybe a little less. It looked like it was built in the early 80's, as evidenced by it's Prime 5 spokes, "Eliminator" looking paint job, etc. It was hit in the front, tweaked the frame, but the body wasn't too bad if I recall correctly. I think the cowl was bent a bit, but the body was a LOT more savable than the one pictured. It went for right around $10k, which I thought was a steal. Coulda pulled the body off, done a little work on it, primered it, and sold the body for $15k, and still had a lot of street rod stuff leftover...

On a side note, there are STILL hurricane Katrina cars showing-up at auctions. SS Chevelles, street rods, low riders, mid year Vettes, shoebox Chevys, etc, full of mud and still bringing lots of money, even with salvage titles! I'm talking mud behind the guages on the dash, etc...I can't believe it! And this isn't on ebay, these are at live insurance auctions restricted to dealers only. I don't understand how they are getting their moneys worth out of the cars!

I seen this car in person a couple weekends ago when it arrived in town, definatally not a project for the faint of heart. Word is it'll be finished by june for the annual car show.

You can move the throttle linkage by hand and it sticks in two places, probabally what led to its demise.

  29. Check back over the posts. The car is in a bodyshop in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada. The guy bought it from the insurance co for 20 k Canadian. It will supposedly be back together for next summer. Not for sale. Pat.
