Can the special coupe rear window section be cut out and welded in to make a standard coupe or is the metal underneath the "leatherback" a different style. I have special cupe quarter windows and a body that was cut into a roadster, i have a line on this body. He says there is a metal section between the quarter windows. I don't know the model a lineup well enough, can this section be stolen and used ? I've been looking for a Tudor or Coupe rear section but this guys pictures are a little different from his description of them on the phone. I don't think it will work...
Pretty sure there is not much metal around the window on a Sport Coupe, aka Leatherback. Coupe or Tudor stuff can be made to work,if you really want to. Cut,weld, grind, repeat as necessary.
Jason, leatherbacks had an ugly hunk of metal in the back basically to fill the hole as the leather was the finished product. I may have a rear window from a sedan. I will look next week when I make a trip to the farm. Pat.
Special Coupe...Sport Coupe, i always get those two mixed up, Thanks for looking Pat, i was going to send you an e-mail, i have a local guy that says he pretty much has everything i needm and has sold the window sections before so he knows what i'm looking for. I'm getting the itch to paint my truck and sell it and get on this coupe build. Trucks gotten boring, EFI airbags...meh shrug...i want 400 horses and 2200 lbs !! Thanks for the heads up guys...I didn't think it would be easy to find someone willing to part with a rear window !
The special coupe top section attached to the lower body differently than the standard coupe. The special coupe top had a wood edge around the rear window that was used to tack the "leather" too, it was also attached to a wooden piece that hooked it to the lower body. The top from a standard coupe has a finished edge to the rear window, and the top will bolt to the lower body. You can tell the special coupe quarter window piece from the standard coupe window piece by the length of the tack strip that is perforated. The special coupe piece has perforations all the way to it's lower edge. Standard coupe pieces have the perforated area for a short distance. The special coupe relied on the leather to cover the top and was less finished. Also, a sport coupe was like a fake convertible, all cloth top, no quarter windows, but the top wouldn't go down. All three were built on the same lower body, just different tops. Hopes this helps, I built a standard coupe from pieces from 10 coupes and learned the differences the hard way.
