After countless weeks of dealing with trying to match up fuel lines and fittings for my wretched WCFB carbs, we tried to fire it Saturday. It ran, but the idle was in the neighborhood of 3500 rpm. After several attempts with this outcome, we gave up for the day. After all the time spent searching for those fittings, two of which I had to create from other fittings, I couldnt just quit and walk away which is what I threatened to do. I pulled the carbs off today to investigate the idle issue. I found that there were conflicts between two tangs on the pass side that were binding up; on both carbs! A couple good tweaks with a pair of pliers and problem solved. I reinstalled the carbs; re adjusted the linkage between the two carbs and reattached the fuel lines. I hit the starter for about 15 seconds to get the fuel going again and she fired right up and idled without throwing fire balls or kicking back! Anyway, no video as I had hoped as I did all the above tweaking with no one around. However, when I did fire her up, I had a couple neighbors come over to see what all the racket was. I fired the motor on open headers, so there really was quite a racket! Both were the cool neighbors who had nothing but congrats for me. So now its on to bodywork, upholstery and glass. Thats the stuff I like doing. Im still shooting for the first drive this spring. Wish me luck! Vance
there is nothing like firing it up for the first time, i had that pleasure over the summer and couldn't stop smiling for a week...congrats...
Good for you Vance, it's good to hear you got your fuel fitting issues resolved. Now get to finishing everything else.
What no fireballs?!?! Nothing like a good fire in the rafters My neighbor and I do the same thing. I fire up my racecar, and he lights off the big block for his Chevelle he's restoring. The other neighbors hate us both. Congrats on bringing her to life.
Congrats, Vance. I'm glad to hear that you've gotten this far. That's going to be a hell of a car. Hope you bring it up here for Billetproof Detroit even if you don't have upholstery or any of that stuff.
Billetproof IS on the list of required events for this year. dickster, I actually welded up the holes in the fittings that I had, redrilled them and tapped them to the size I needed. I really can't believe the ones I needed aren't made by sombody out there. But hey, it works, it's custom made and looks 'normal'... Thanks for the support guys. Vance
Oh lucky, Saturday we had PLENTY of fireballs. It looked like a regular pryotechnics show at some points. Vance
okay no vid!!!fine~!!!!but hows about a still of a burnout???come on !!!give us somethin here ya teaze!!! i bet your stoked!!you should be vance!!!congrats on the fireup!!!!im just a frame, front, rear, motor , trans away from that day!!!!
I have this Excel spread sheet of a checklist that is hanging in the garage that I actually use and the last item on it is BURNOUT! No kidding. Vance
Well me and the car anyway. My wife isn't into all those road trips. She likes to stay close to home. GG in Columbus is about as far as I can get her to go and even then I have to take her to the Polaris Mall north of town afterword as a bribe... If it weren't for Molly Woo's up there, I'd be complaining. Their food makes it worth the trip. Vance
Well that's a bummer, I was looking forward to seeing her. I guess it can wait till Colubus. Anyway, wanted to mention for you to make sure you come up to BilletProof early enough on that Friday evening cuz I'm having a blow out BBQ at my place that nite.
I'm looking at making all my trips this year one day affairs to try to keep costs down. I have a guy wanting to ride shotgun and we're both the type who like to get up early and go all day and drive home that night. But if things change, I'll keep the BBQ in mind. I love a good BBQ. Hell, who am I kidding? I love a bad BBQ. Vance
