Midly Off topic, As Many dont know (I dont run around telling folks) I have a little peice O chit 91 toy celica to make the 60 mile trip to work each day, good on gas, always been real reliable (to the tune of 280K on the original clutch) anyway I had just gotten done functional check flighting a helo at the command and was heading home, bout 10am, my POS quit, in grand fashion (alternator caught on fire WHOA!) I got off to the side of the road, put the fire out (good thing I was wearing a nomex flight suit) and was sitting on the side of the freeway scratching my *** wondering what to do next....HARK I have a Cell Phone....punch in the number, press send and the battery farted and died, Hmmmm Not my day I think. So now I leaning against the guard rail really scratching my head whilst keeping a wary eye on the traffic blowin by me at warp speed and thinkin that I gotta hell of a wait till someone wants to kindly stop for a large green guy (thats the color of the pickle suit) As I planning out my next big tactical move (IE Trying to figure out which direction to hike thats shorter...in a fairly long streach of exitless freeway) my savior comes careaning out of the middle lane, 8 trailer tires smokin and skippin down the blacktop, he got the tractor/trailer stopped bout a 1/8th mile in front of my toy on the convieniently wide shoulder, throws it in reverse and backs up to a reasonable distance from me, Its the Hoosier 410 winged sprint car, not sure if it was a private or corperate rig, but it was nice none the less, I believe it was a smaller time guy due to the fact that the trailer wasnt your typical racing featherlite, but I digress. he hops out asked my if I was permantly broke or if it was something easy (like fuel) I answered its perma broke...(fire extinguisher still sitting by the nose just in case) he asks if I mind if he tows me, (I'm thinkin WTF? tow chain on a 18 wheeler? Never heard of that but ok...) but tell the bloke yes anyway to see what we see. evidently they dropped off one of their cars to a ch***is shop for some major updates and had only their primary car with em, he flopped down the back of the trailer, winched me up, granted I had to throw a big *** hoosier tire and rim on the hood but i think I can deal with that, then we chatted for bout 45 min on the way to my house, talked cars, racin and women he dropped me off at my doorstep, unloaded the car and told me thanks for serving our country and drove off, I offered up the payment for services plus a case o brew but he wouldnt have it.... Moral of this long *** story, carry a fire extinguisher and support your Hoosier dealer...I know I will! I know Mike and the crew prob arnt on here but thanks none the less, this dude appreciates it a whole lot, you pulled me *** right outta the fire.... you shoulda seen my wifies face when I hopped outta a hoosier rig and unloaded the toy from the enclosed trailer....that was some funny chit!
That was a good story and nice to hear someone in uniform getting some respect and consideration. Not enough of that lately.
Much better than the union hall in MI asking the reserve guys with non-big 3 cars to not park there! At some point, we are all Americans here and elsewhere we are all humans! Time to run a search just to see who it was...might have been the ghost of old man 2006 on his way out...
Agreed Dirthawker....luckly I ran into one....just got the toy back together/fixed, alternator diodes went out, spiked the batt, backfed the system and caught the alt on fire...so I was told....I'm justa parts changer on that thing....it works now, thats all that matters. 38Chevy and G V gordon, Thanks man....I'm not a respect hunter, (I appreciate the thanks none the less) I chose to go in, thats the life I wanted and its a good one...I'm having a blast as a Milspec Fool, I caint believe they pay me to fly big peices O chit round the sky....lemme tell ya its FUN, I'd do it for free... I certainly am glad that I stop to help folks when I can...Its nice to know that every once in awhile the good side of humanity rears its slumbering head... Unkl Ian....good Idea mate...I didnt even think of that....I'll do that
Hummm Its race time down there and of course the Hoosier tire stuff is up in indiana so ill bet it was someone doing the winter race ****. Thats cool .. I follow a lot of racing and a lot with hoosier tires. did you get the guys name? If it was the purple and white 18 wheeler then they were either sellin tires or other ****. They dont have a race team. They kinda sponser everyone.. Thats ****ing cool... Dave
Kudos to him, and to you. I like to hear that folks in the daily grind can appreciate a uniform for what it means. Thanks for doin' what you do.
Bigtime. Spread the word, this guy deserves some recognition. That's way above and beyond. If there were more people in this world like that...man... I always liked Hoosiers for some unknown reason...never had anything worthy to put them on...but now I know...and I have a good memory.
Anybody on the HAMB know anyone at Hoosier tire? Or any sprint car guys?Hoosier might know who this was even if they are only an ***ociate sponsor.Sponsors love hearing stories like this just like we all do!Having experience with sponsored racing (GMGoodwrech ta/fc)believe me,this type of feedback keeps sponsors enthusiastic about all of motorsport.Lets help another HAMB'R return an awesome kindness.Nice to know people like this are still out there!!!! How about email or phone"wind tunnel" on Speed channel,30 sec mention would be=to about a years sponsorship in ad $$$
