Spent life savings on hospital incoming not that that's enough. Sorry venting some frustrations on the key board. No insurance No savings What have I done? Boy you go in early stay late. Well my sanity or integraty haven't gone by the wayside yet. Now to face my family. Stay tune for another day in the life. - lo -

Not to minimize your job loss, but you have your family, ambition and youth on your side. I'm an 'old' guy and have gone thru the same ordeals over my lifetime. I've come to realize that most times, when one door closes, another opens and usually for the better. Treat this as a temporary set-back and as an opportunity to go after something better than you had. Five years from now you might just be real thankful that this happened.
We're all praying for you & the family.

Hang in there man. Don't give up. You never lose if you never give up. In change there is opportunity!

Life is "10% of what happens to you and 90% of how you react to it!" At least thats what I keep telling myself.

Merrilat Cabinets? Like the one HQed in Adrian, MI? I know someone who's been through the ringer there. I understand little comp***ion comes from there. If an auction is up, I'm in on it!

  12. That's a rotten deal they did for ya for sure. I hope the kid is alright or will be when all is said and done.

This isn't a slam so don't take it that way but you didn't loose your livleyhood you just lost your job. There's always another job. 3 years ago I became disabled and went from about 60k+ to zero in a matter of about 5 minutes. Now I'm about a year away from an engineering design degree that I should have gotten about 35 years back.

Maybe this is a good time to consider a career change. Sometimes ya just gotta back up and regroupe. The games not over you're still on this side of the gr***.

Again hope the kid pulls through alright. Leme know if there is anything I can do to help.

I'm not wanting an auction in my benefit please. There are others in need far more than me. I'm racking my brain to come up with an internet side line, I'm some what literate and have three computers on line for the first time. I have my own network and would like to put my work ethic to benefit my family. Da- so many thoughts goin on. Morgage, car, tuition, maybe not, my family deserves more stability than a rainbow can give. Thank goodness for this outlet

That totally ****s! Since you live in Ohio, why not try landing a Gov. job there. They are all over the place there. I swear most of the state is employed by the Gov.

Fred's right. In a situation like this you need to be on a positive track. I'll disagree about the money part for the interim.
The situation is what you make of it . If your proactive and look at this as a new begining things will be ok but dont put yourself in the position of being reactive . It will only make things look more difficult.

The news is still fresh in your mind . Give it a day to get back to some normalcy and spend some time with a clear mind to chart out your new course. Your writing things out already. That's good! When you put these issues and thoughts on paper they are easier to resolve but if you keep them inside your head they seem insurmountable because you keep thinking about the same 3 issues
    20 different ways.

    Best wishes

    I 'm a computer jock by trade.
Call me for ANY help you need, Bro!
I found a great place top setup online for very little cost.
They also have the goodies you need to do on-line stores, etc.
I'd be honored to help you get going!

I feel for you and hope you find something soon.

Unfortunately, this is not the first time that a member has lost a job. Maybe what we need is a HAMB resume repository so we can help them network for a new job.

Don't beat yourself up about your family not deserving this. No one's family deserves to be treated with the disrespect your former employer showed them so you just have to buck up and figure out what you can do with what you've got.

The comp***ion you've showed about your son recently gives you an A in my book. Are there any training programs in your area where you could go to school and get some support? Some local vocational schools might even be able to help you get started on an internet business. Stay away from get rich quick schemes. The only one getting rich is the schemer!

Like others said, hope your son gets better soon. ****s about the tjob, but keep a positive at***ude and you will find something better. I think most of us on the board here have experienced some sort of unexpected job loss (layoff, company quit business, etc) and we all have come out better in the end. It may a rough couple months until you get settled in, that is the worst part, the uncertainty until you find something to replace your past job. When you need it, come on here and let us help motivate you.

Hope your son is doing better, he's more important than a job.

Don't let this take the wind out of your sails, remember everything happens for a reason. It may not be clear to you now but down the road this may be the best thing to happen to you.

If there's an auction brewin' let me know. Got a coupla things kicking around I can toss in the pile.

Good luck. After 13 years I was let go last Nov 14. I am back to work at a higher paying job now although, I would have worked for less if I had to.

Good luck in your search, it may work out to your benefit.

I feel your pain and I'm not being sarcastic. Got the word wasn't needed the 26th of Dec. Have a few applications in now.

Most of all family is good.

I hope your boy gets better and you find the job of your life. One you will enjoy doing. Look forward to doing. Not just putting time in.

Anybody need an old fat heavy equipment operator? Dumptrucker?
Best to everyone on the HAMB. They are without a doubt the best people anywhere. Been that way since I first logged on in 01.
This thread proves it. And the ones like it in the past.

Gotta go fore I start blubbering along with the ramblin

there is a law for family leave and they cannot take your job away. you can take up to 12 weeks off but the clincher is unless you have vacation or sicktime, its unpaid. i cant understand a man taking care of his family and be canned for it.your child is precious and that child is the most important person to you . can you not talk to your boss???? or how about the labor board?? pamela

Thanks Pam, The reason was company profits, margins the elimination of the dept. My position was divied up to others. They ***ured me my work ethic and performance had nothing to do with it. Here's the clincher my seniority was hire then anyone there. Still not understanding that one. Maybe they are more interested in lower wages? They are hiring a lot of minorities not that that is a bad thing. They need work to, you go to work protecting the employer and there well being. In early stay late first to go I don't understand. I could go on but why. Thanks for taking the time to read this post. Day 2 in the day and the life - lo -

If they have a pattern of laying off senior folks and rehiring juniors, you may find an attorney helpful.
