Well, A little while back I swapped my 62 falcon for a 31 ish body a frame and some odds and ends. I hadnt done jack with it besides stack it in the corner as I was working on my shoebox. I was kickin around engine ideas and I wanted to run a striaght 6 (thanks for all the offers!) and had my mind set on a slant 6 mopar and was told those are harder than a saturday night in jail to find, so I decided when I got back from florida I would buy a 235 chevy or something. well while I was in florida I sicker than who knows what and spent a lot of time on line, low and behold a fella pm'd me a says, I have a slant 6 out of my show car, you can have it for 100 smackers, you have to pick it up, and would you believe he was in florida! on the way home no less! the only problem was that I had our Jeep Liberty, needless to say getting an engine in a jeep liberty is tough but if you take the rear hatch of and can get past your girl yelling at you for taking her car apart in florida, it will fit, the rans was hooked to it too! any ways, we got home, I unloaded it (much easier with a cherry picker than a chain fall) and made my motor mounts up and set the powerplant in it. I will post more pics as I go but I wanted to share my progress that I started yesterday. this is going to be my ride for the summer as the shoe is getting totally pulled apart for new paint and air ride, probably wont be on the road this summer. and this will be my JALOPY SHOWDOWN RIPPER! I have a long history of MX in my past as I raced for 17 years, you boys better look out, 3rd gear pinned around the outside is where I'll be at!
Looks good.....glad I'm not the only one that pulls stupid chit like that, I got a complete 396 dropped in the back of a caddy CTS rental(heads were not attached)...worked out well too seeing as it was the rental they gave me when my truck got hit...the 396 was over 400 miles away....nothin like free milage!
The best part was riding 1200+ miles on the bump stops! man I thought I was buying a new rear end or at least bearings for sure
I think that rod needs a front suspension. Maybe a nice front axle and bones off of a '37 ford? Nice score on the motor dude. You better marry that chick. Not too many of them around that will let you do that!!!
Funny you should mention that... Rumor has it Mr. joe ended up engaged on that trip. Congrats on the motor and the girl. BTW.. you still owe me a paint job, or maybe that was the whiskey talking... Regardless, I look forward to cruising to the showdown in our somewhat completed (hopefully) rides.
lookin good Joe... we should have the bag job done pretty quick on that sucker. should'nt take you all summer to have it painted. i think you'll be drivin the box again by mid summer even if you take your time. so ya got engaged huh??? SUCKER!!!!!---- i mean, CONGRATS!!!
looks like a fun progect. the funniest thing i did was getting my 55 caddy engine home in my 91 plymouth SUNDANCE! AHAHA! it took me 2 trips from troy michigan to waukegan IL. i had to take the engine apart as much as i could. i put parts randomly about my car and lucky for me it was a hatchback with a seat that folded, so i put the block in the back, heads up on the passenger floor, ect ect. talk about dragging te ground in back...... i got to chicago my gas tank read 3/4 and i was just about to get gas when.....*chug chug chug~~~* out of gas!!!!!(quickly coasted off the highway) and to make things better, it was 1am in the southside of chicago!!!! i was out in the middle of no where, there was cars tuner street racing!!!!!! and i had to walk an hour to the nearist gas station with gun shots going off and shady looking figures around every corner.. thank god i finally found a police station and they drove me back to my car. and the cop said to me "you walked this entire way through the ghetto!!?? your a crazy!" needless to say i was rather scared for my life, i was really hoping my car wsa worth it..... so anyway, dont trust yer gas gauge when yer car isnt at the right angle! hahah
Great score! Much better deal than my 235 and different than everybody else. Best 6 I ever had was a 72 Dodge slant that ran forever. I have seen 4 bbl manifolds and cams for them also. Fred
I will keep updates coming, I am going to order my front end bungs and spring shackles today, hopefully get those on this weekend.
