Zach's been laboring away in the basement of his house on the Track Roadster; looks like he'll be done here real shortly He sent pix last night of his latest progress, which was the bracing of the deck lid, hinge and latch location. Damn thing's got a cute little butt! Anyway - when I first saw the car, I thought the decklid and trunk panel should be unpainted, as they're fabbed from aluminum. After thinking about it - no. S'gotta be painted. But then, Jach sends off this pic - and I'm rethinkin' the painting of the decklid again. Please note the nose, hood, and hood sides are fabbed from aluminum, too - and they're gonna remain *mostly* unpainted. Soo...Whatcha think? Paint it - or leave it au naturel?
heres one before the hinges and latches...not great with the glare it'll have 39 taillights halfway between the latches and the license plate the lights will align with the hinges
Well sense you asked,,, =) I would punch a few rows of louvers in it and leave it raw. But I would paint the rest.
Clarification: the car is indeed going to be painted - don't want all y'all to think otherwise. The issue is whether or not to paint the alloy out back. I've always been a fan of naked aluminum - remember, this would have been a pretty exotic alloy for back in the day.
i think the raw aluminum in the front works because that was obviously a section of the car that pretty much had to have been hand made either then or now the trunk should just blend in with the car...it has no special features that make it stand out or give it a need to stand out the only reason its aluminum is because its not a stock size...and i like to work with aluminum more then steel. the chrome appointments on the back will equalize the car but an aluminum trunk and lower panel in my opinion would detract from the front of the car which is its main point of interest if i had finished the car as i wanted for a resale purpose i think i may have left the trunk bare just because....well it may fetch more money if people notice that its not stock...but your buying/finishing the car for yourself....not to resell or show off whats there so i think it should just blend in....you'll know its aluminum maybe leave the inside bare?
if you want....i'll just keep the car and that'll settle it all all these posts talking about it make it hard to let it leave... i think your gona do it right no matter what direction you take on the details... ...just be sure to take it wide open Zach
Hey .... pay $6 grand and paint it like an easter egg. I dig it the way it is, either way the lines of that car are kewl enough to look good either way.
Very cool car. I vote for paint. Ever seen one of those Mercedes SL models with the chrome gas door? That's what the unpainted decklid reminds me of... no 'flow'.
Since back in the day, the object of the majority of rodders, was always to get it under paint. I vote for paint.
To not decide is to decide. Leave it bare until you definitely make up your mind but don't leave it out in the elements to oxidize!
