  1. Damn it Kev......I hate you.......no wait......on second thought, you are my idol:rolleyes:. You da man. I'm coming out to the great state of California for the G.N.R.S. How much admission do you charge to walk around the KK museum. I gladly pay just to mill around your shop and take it all in !:D

    I got a janky 9'8" Stickman for $50 that I had to do some...uh...extensive 'glass work to get wet-worthy. I ain't proud, but I'm having a blast!

Anyone on the East Coast riding a Wet Stix? I worked for the shaper for a summer in DE and I always wondered what happened to that guy and his boards. I know he used to sell 'em at Ron Jon (NJ) and a few shops in OC, MD...

even in Michigan, I've got a couple. I've got a 6' 6" tri-fin, made by a place in Cocoa Beach, FL called Natural Art. THEN!!!, I've got in the rafters of my garage a 1957 (at least I was told) Hobie 10 footer that I know nothing about. I bought it at a garage sale for 10 bucks! Surf guys here, I'll get some pics of it so I can find out about it.

  5. My garages have always been filled to the gills with "stuff" in every nook and cranny, but not so much cool stuff like yours. Its like the more you look, the more you see.
I was out there a few years back to see the Father's day show @ Pomona and we did some sight seeing. We did go to Ventura beach, but I forget how far it was from Pomona. Are you going to the G.N.R.S.?

  6. OL 55....I'll PM ya

  7. I live and work seconds from a GREAT break "cox bay" I am building a post/beam home for clients on "rosie bay" which gets nice swell but is less surfed as it's got a rock hazard at hi tide. I'd be lying if I didn't tell I was a fair weather surfer meaning I don't like it when it's to big, I ride a 7'10 mini longboard and have a nice 10.0 that works very well in front of my home on 'south chestermans" as it doesn't get as much swell...

Hey, there's a shop right down the street from the GARAGE magazine HQ that still does the original water-slide decals. They're expensive, but damn--they look good.

And from what I hear, not many shops do those anymore, right?

    Django,

we're on the Fresh Coast baby! The waves here are wind driven. There is a forum or two that posts conditions on Lake Mich. and elsewhere. I'm just a skinny puss that gets cold real easy.

  21. can it be??? ryan is one of us??

  22. I've got a late 50's 10'2" Hobie that still looks new. An early 60's 9'4" G&S east coast board that rides like a dream. An early 70's Conn Butterfly that rips. A 7' Lightening Bolt in need of a friend with superior glassing skills. An old Weber longboard that we use for wake surfing and about 6 crappy newer shortboards with snapped off noses, splintered tails and dinged up rails I let wannabes borrow. Most summer days I go to work with either the G&S or my 9'2" Outer Banks board on top of the Hup in case a ripple blows up. I've been known to take a 2 hr lunch when conditions are right. Its always a longboard day.

Fast cars, long boards, cold beer and a happy girlfriend, my man you are rich!...I'm 6'2" 230 lbs so my old Gordon&Smith long board, a California shorty I'm going to have to go look at to remember where its from, and a homemade wooden longboard of unknown origins, have served me well..my skateboards are SchmidtStix longboards and homemade out of old slalom water skis turned around backwards and big green or blue Kryptonics...I just can't fall on my left shoulder anymore!!.(I'm regular foot)...Rick

I used to surf regularly when I lived in NZ and then socal, but KC doesnt have much to offer! I have a 6'10 BYB hybrid that I keep in socal and use when I go back (once a month or so). I used to ride a 7'4 bruce jones and will get another one when the byb gives out (wont take long as the byb has a pretty crappy glass job). I also have a 12' "Surfari" longboard from the 60's in storage in NZ and a brand new 6' shortboard with me in KC that my wife gave me when we met (its a real performance board, too small for me (or I am not that fit anymore!) but I dont have the heart to sell it. )
I've been thinking about incorporating a surf theme into the sedan delivery I have, but dont want it to look tacky. Maybe I'll just put a hula hoop girl on the dash :)

I have been in love with the whole surf thing since I was kid growning up in southern Cal. I got a chance to surf alittle.. never forgot the feeling.. moved after that great summer (to the NW and no surf close enough). I was only about 10 at the time but spent almost every day of summer vacation down at the beach that year.

I hope to eventually find a nice vintage long board to go ontop of my woodie. Dewey Weber actually had a dodge like mine at one time... so as I get closer to road worthiness you will see a want ad looking for one.

I plan to drive my ride across country for WaveCrest (goal is 2009) so I may have to stop by kiwikev's place and see if he has an extra hanging from his rafters.

I've got a 6'8" stringerless egg I built out of blue DOW insulation foam and epoxy. The few guys that build boards around here were too expensive and made me feel like they'd never start building my board, so I built it myself!

Oh, yeah, no ocean, not even a great lake around here. People surf rivers. Standing waves that keep working forever. I tried my best but these waves are harder to catch than ocean waves (Costa Rica waves at least...). Most of the guys there went trough the wave without catching it. My summer consisted of riding while holding a rope wakeboard style. Sucks! I hope I'll be able to catch one this summer.

Damn Kev, I knew there was something about you I liked besides your generosity with fuel pumps.. (That was me at CHRR)

I shared a shoulder-high peeler with a porpoise at C St. once. Kinda weird looking right and seeing a dorsal fin as I stood up.. He cruised along a few yards ahead of me down the line for a while then launched out of the face, caught air and dropped back in. My most magical moment on a board..
