  1. TWO Gypsy Rose cars were built. The first, and simpler painted one was a 63. The second, and more elaborate painted one was a 64. And did you mean Linc, or Liiiincon?

When i live in the Bay area I used to attend a number of lowrider shows (including the supershow in vegas). My earliest memory of a lowrider (other them my uncles boattail on wires on jiuce was a 67/68 camaro in one of the hotrod mags. so Javier or rikseter how about it, any lowrider pre-72 camaro's or vegas in your collection

This post makes me want a lowrider or 60's styled ride so bad.. (I really want a 46-52 chevy fastback or a 55 nomad with astros and pinstrip whitewalls..)

I'm gonna go out on a limb here,,, but besides 'Chico and the Man' what was so special about the Gypsy Rose compared to other show quality lows of the day? Just the hand painted roses or was there something else I'm missing?

  17. Good question. The answer should be interesting. Besides the obvious that it was a gorgeous car? My "guess" is the fact it was destroyed, resurrected, and then on Chico, all had a lot to do with it. Controversy goes a long way. Hell, we're STILL talking about it 30+ years later!

back in those days there was NO lowrider magazine, nothing even close to it,,HOT ROD car shows SHUNNED lowriders,,,many a time were LOWRIDER STYLE cars turned away from normal car events,,,,,,

    cruising was it,,,the streets,,,,
word got out quickly on the streets about GYPSY ROSE,,,,

for a lack of better terms ,,,,it is the JIMMY SHINE truck/PURPLE PEOPLE EATER/CHOPPERS of BURBANK of today...the way lowriders think of their heirarchey of yesterday....

the same way,,in 5 or 10 years from now,,all the RAT RODDERS will look back on the OG cars of the current movement past few years,,,

This is a bad idea... i have a 67 camaro in my drive way that im about to do some changes on and i could so see my self going this route on it. I dont think the ole lady would be happy she doesnt get the lowrider look. But few do thats what makes it so special i think.

  21. Here's some pics I have. Sorry for the quality. It's hard to take pictures of magazines. Some of these might not be 60s style, but the paint work is incredible. All you krazy Metalflake fans like me will appreciate 'em. E

First, a few lowriders built by our European friends..................

DirtyT... the camaro I am thinking of had skinny crager and thin whites lowered down with a wall of graffiti behind it, all hammered on the ground. Not the normal ride to make a lowrider out of.. when you do one you have to remove all the speed look, no cowl hood, or front or rear wing.. just basic entry level body...

I'am not sure about the rest of the car, but I know the grille of Lee Pratt's Buick was later used in the restoration of the Pisano Brothers/Barris built 41 Buick that was owned by Herb Ogden in the later 50's and restored by Barry Mazza. Its now owned by Custom Car Collector, Curt McCormic Early.
At the time the Lee Pratt Buick was rebuilt and they where going to use a Caddy grille, so the original Buick grille came available.

  26. Here you go Boones. Sorry about the quality of the pic. It's from LRM, January '95. E
