Just got a call from the guy that invited me to autorama with my 32 coupe. I had to turn him down because i dont have an enclosed trailer ride and you can never predect the weather in march. Anyone have a trailer or a friend that wants to make some money in march? It has to be enclosed. Im not gonna bet on the weather with a 40k car. He told me that ive got 3 weeks and if i came up with something he may be able to still get me in. Im in Jackson .. not that far away from cobo. If you have any connections pm me Dave
How about we just stick your little '32 in the trunk of Big Olds and I'll haul ya there. What about hiring a flatbed? Will be high enough off the ground to where it won't get road grime or splashed.....unless of co**** it rains.
WUSSY ... I bought a new one years ago ... before the HAMB was ever started ... for my Fireworks business ... and it is a invaluable tool ... Storage Keeping folks from messing with your stuff ... Moved my Father ... Moved my Mother-inLaw Keep the Harley in it ... ALL in addition to using it for the Fireworks business ... Lots of older trailers available now ... racing season is down and enclosed trailers are not that rare anymore. Just break down and buy one ... You will not regret it ... You will regret not being in the 75Th anniversary show ...
no i'm not.... because i dont have a 40k car. first i wouldnt spend 40k on my car. and second i wouldnt build something i was affraid to drive in the weather.
Can't anybody loan you a trailer? There's gotta be somebody that isn't going to be using their trailer that weekend.
40 or 140 get there early and clean till late. word will get out and the judges will give you hero points and you might get a trophy in the street driven cl***. I put gl*** in a gl*** ford replicar that had 40 grand in paint. and it gets driven after it was shown twice. 40 grand is nothing now days you can spend that on a chrysler 300 and no one would think twice about driving that! I'm done now........Jim
Hey Dave, try this number...517-285-1772. His name is Al, and he hauled a 32 roadster to autorama last year for Ionia Hot Rod Shop. give him a try, maybe he can help ya. I think he lives in the Dansville area. Jeff
well i did it and im proud of it.. took me a long time to get there and i drive it all summer. Jealousy will get you no where. Ive worked hard for my toys and if i dont want to worry about getting salt on it then thats up to me. If it wasnt a big deal then id build a piece of ****. By the way im looking for a trailer in case you didnt read the whole post. Oh ya i can take it to (the comments) Dave
Trailers have problems too... Having seen a lot of trailers on the side of the road, you might want to bring some spare tires (more than 1). Also, I've seen tow vehicles having problems. Plan on what to do if the tow vehicle breaks down and you have to leave the trailer behind during repair.
my advice careful whos trailer you put it in, and insurance stuff Might not be covered if disaster hits
Dave, this place can get real edgy at times, but you just need to seperate the wheat from the chaff. In all the **** you read there were several good suggestions and I hope that you are able to take advantage of them. I certainly understand your hesitance to drive your car to the Autorama owing to the tenuous nature of "Mother Nature." I don't blame you at all having had a similar situation happen to me many years ago. I had just finished up on a 1933 Buick 90 Series Victoria (a very rare car) and was asked by my friend to bring it to the indoor car show he was promoting with a couple friends. I initially said no as the show was in early March and, just like Detroit, the weather in Rochester, NY can be treacherous to say the least. I had no trailer and if I were to go I had to drive. Well, you guessed it, he kept calling so, as he was a friend, I said yes and drove down on setup night. Beautiful weather - in the low fifties. Well, you also guessed it, by the time of shutdown on Sunday night the snow was over one foot deep on the roads and coming down to beat the band. Oh oh, I can't drive the thing home as it ain't a friggin snowmobile and, worst of all, we were told in no uncertain terms, that we had to get our cars out by midnight or they would be towed out and left on the street!!! Fortunately, my friend and savior Steve had his '40 Willys there and had access to a trailer. He volunteered to tote me home first and then come back for his Willys. It was one of the worst experiences of my rodding life. How we made it through that ****, I'll never know. But, we did and we were able to get back to get Steve's car home safely. There were some rewards as Shirley Muldowney picked my car as her favorite at the show and, in fact, offered to buy it on several occ***ions. I said no and drove it for several more years untill my '48 Caddy showed up. Then it went down the road - in fact, to a guy in your neighborhood. Bill Cain a founding member of the Michigan Hot Rod ***ociation bought it and, as far as I know, he still owns it and makes several trips a year to Florida, as Bill is a geezer. Sooooo, don't let the a-holes grind you down. If you don't want to go, unless it's on a trailer - DON'T go!!!! Simple as that. Whatever you decide, good luck. Hope we run into each other sometime down the road. John, aka "oldandkrusty"
A few of us are just busting his balls cuz we know him and know he will regret not having his car there so we're trying to "encourage" him to do whatever is necessary to get the car there. Besides, isn't tough love how you show someone you care??
Ya anyone with a 40k car can afford a ****ing trailer.. you betch ya I can take the ball busting and i knew when i made this post id get a bunch but im really looking for a trailer ride to detroit thats why i posted here and on the RRT looking for help in locating one. As far a buying a trailer hell ya i got enuff money but i wont be able to buy any more chains Ive got a roadster in that garage too that im building to sell im hoping tooadd on to the garage and take the rest of the money and set it aside for my reirement. Plus if i get an enclosed trailer id have to get a bigger truck. So wanna bust my balls about all the money i have in my car and wanting an enclosed trailer ride go for it. Just please don tell me how if i got a 40k car i can afford a trailer and how i really should buy one. Rememer you may ask for help someday but i work with ***holes all day and i have experience ignoring them even when they need a favor.. Like i said earlier I worked hard to get to this point and ive built quite a few cars. No im not the gold chainer 1-800 type but the coupe was one i always wanted to do and yup i was on the phone a lot and buying parts. I finally reached my goal of building a brand new car from brand new parts. Driving it in the sloppy salty **** isnt an option If i wasnt so dead set on trying to get some more money set aside to retire things would be different and id proly have a trailer. I really hate where i work and dont want to work too much longer. Thanks but ill keep my money.. Anyway again to the guys that pmed me thanks. im waiting on one option before i start making any calls. If we dont get a trailer ill still be at autorama ill be the guy with the gold chain Dave ps: keep it comming denise i can take it
Well if you don't find a trailer to use, and you need a ride to CoboHall, I'll come get you in Big Olds and drive you there.....just remember to bundle up. Then again, you could be wearing shorts and a t-shirt in Big Olds that weekend xo**o
OK Dave all ******** aside. I really hope you're able to get the car there. I think you'll regret it if you don't find a way of making it happen.
Thanks to gmgrunt and hotroddrummer Im in... I called Al when I got home and he is available so I called Chuck and sealed the deal .. then called Al back.. Yeeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaaaaaaa The Hamb Pulls thru again.. Dave
Cool, Michigan salt ****s. I hate even getting it on my $250 winter beater Buick. I am glad you found a way to get it there, Id like to see your car in person. See ya in March.
