It seems like the trend of Plowboy inspired show rods are picking up. 50's cars cut into bits and pieces, and reborn as small roadsters with big engines. I really like this concept, and would really like to see more cars like this being buillt in the future. I have seen several projects currently being built here on the HAMB, but I'm sure there are other out there too. In this thread I would like to see pictures, sketches and photoshops of Plowboy inspired kreations! Show of your finnished, in progress, or planned kreations.
Larry's right. Ha Ha Ha You can't give me the credit for doing what I do. Ray Fahrner was the first one to do it back in the day. The "Eclipse" was a 32 RPU with a bed made from 59 or 60 Chevy quarters. Doc Frankenstein was probably one of the first ones to bring back the style about 5 years ago or so. I am just a rip off artist. Ha Ha Ha I have A.D.D. and tend to work my *** of building **** so I guess I get credit even though it isn't really my idea. There isn't really anything that hasn't been done before to some extent. I have pics from a custom rodder from '91 that had concept illustrations in it of cars made from later model sheetmetal by Ed Newton. Thom Taylor had also done a lot of drawings of such concepts. It is nothing new really. As for Hambers that are building stuff there are several........I have had other non HAMBers e-mail me with project pics but I will let them remain secrets. Ha Ha Ha I haven't seen a whole lot of progress pics lately. Most people think it is a great idea until they actually start working on something and find out how much work it really is. I could make my life a lot easier if I just built model A's. Ha Ha Ha
I've noticed that too. But I thought it was just from having to hold in all the ideas. Huh, go figure.
Yeah, I remember seing Doc Frankensteins pick up truck some years ago. I remember thinking that was a way out concept back then I'm also really looking foreward to the newest kreation rolling out of Doc's garage, the ElCamino turned into a fenderless hot rod:
my heap. not much progress lately. i'm getting laid off next month so i've been working as much as i can to save up for the down time.
I got a free '38 Buick cowl and the back half of a '59 Impala that I just started to mess with... . I kinda doubt myself about be able to pull it off though. I'm not sure if I can make it look how I imagine it. Lot's of work that's for sure... but seeing pics of your builds sure helps keep me going.
Where in the hell did you find 60 Merc tail light housings / bumper ends without rust through in the bottom? Nice looking truck...
Looks like sumting burt Reynolds drove in Stroker Ace.. Can you show me how to Cluck... I wantcha you to cluck dammit
He got the whole rear end of the car from FLAT TOP BOB. Matt doesnt like the name but we've been calling it The Ovaltine. course he is very negative. b
ahhhhh, actually its MINE.... I built it in 90, as a swap meet buggy, got ****ered into putting it in the World of Wheels, it won 1st place " Special Interest Motorized"...its sitting next to the deck as we speak....
I had this idea a while back...with a bit of a twist. I'm working on a fenderless '38 ford pickup project and I was thinking that '59 Impala tail lights turned vertically would be a killer match for the grill with their oval-ish shape and (after turning) horizontal bars. Of course nailing a pair of Impala tailinghts on a late '30s pickup box would probably look dumb so I thought why not do it Plowboy-style Hack the back of an Impala in half and turn the whole thing so that the old horizontal fins are now vertical (pic 1) and build a bed in between the two halves. The cab of a '38 gets narrower twords the front. So if you were looking at the cab from above the bottom line in pic 2 would go straight back and the top line along the fins would be angled out to match the cab. It's hard to explain but it works in my head If only I had the back half of a 59 Impala to play with like this guy..... Not sure if it would work though. The fins angling out like they do would mean you'd need a really wide rearend to keep the tires from hitting unless the box were really narrow or else you could cut some kind of a wheel opening into it... Still, I wouldn't mind trying it....
