I think you have a good idea going with your website, and if you need anything on Fabrication I'll be glad to help. I could give less than a **** about the money everybodys *****ing about, and really could give less than a **** about my name being glorified in any way. And I will explain why.... I have some finely honed skills and enjoy sharing that with others if they are truly interested. I am Union and have been a fabricator for about 16 yrs now.Everything from M***ive I-Beams to Polished SS Countertops. Being Union, I have helped train my share of apprentices and have a talent for explaining fabrication and Welding techniques. I have three AWS Certifications and when my company gets new apprentices that show an interest in Fabrication, they are given to me because of my ability to teach these skills. People may have their problems with how Unions work, but the fact remains that behind the political ********, the older Generations teach the younger. That is how it should be, and that is what attracts a lot of these younger guys to the HAMB I read your original post and found no insult. I can see the point of some of the other guys, but monetary compensation should not be an issue here IF this site of yours is truly what you say it is. The only problem I DO have with anything you said is this... "HAMB drags and all the other activites held somewhere a thousand miles away dont particularly interest me, but you dont see posts from me slamming it in the threads pertaining to it. I just dont read what I am not interested in." Kentucky is hardly a Thousand miles away from the KS-MO border, and even though I was unable to attend the Drags this year, I was extremely pleased that these guys came to my home State from all over the US. Most of the cool stuff happens everywhere BUT the Central States, and being in Kentucky you should have appreciated it as much as I did. If you are what you say you are.... The HAMB is a big Family, and like most big Families, not everyone gets along all the time. There is a huge amount of information in this "Family", and if you filter out the *****ing and whining you can learn something here. And one more thing... I have "known" AV8 from both the HAMB, and the RRT, for several years now. The other guys were right in informing you of your mistake regarding AV8. He is a**** the most respected members on both Forums and even though I don't agree with him about the money in this particular situation, the fact remains that he is exactly the type of person you should be looking for. But we also don't know for sure if you and your new Website are what they Seem to be. If it turns out that this is a money making venture for you, then the other guys are right to request compensation for their knowledge.
well said: hopefully everyone will come to see what the message is, instead of killing the messenger... i am only tooooo happy to p*** the torch on this one. bob aka "the ******* step child of the hamb" ps. and i aint going anywhere ryan unless you make it to where i cant participate here, which i hope isnt the case.
There was so much ******** on the other post, I figured my opinion would just get lost in the Muck. Maybe this will give Ironhunter another chance to argue his case. And for those of you that can't do anything other than Stir ****, shut up long enough for the rest of us to decide whether Ironhunter is who and what he says he is, and whether we trust him or not on the matter of personal gain. I know a lot of you younger guys are here to pick up knowledge, and at only 34 I am still picking up knowledge myself. I am interested in this proposed repository of information, mainly because all my car knowledge is based on the Muscle Cars of the 60's and 70's and I am almost ready to try my hand at Real Roddding. If knowledge is what keeps younger guys from building Rods (which plenty of you ***** about), then a site like this could help the Hobby survive the Ricer invasion.
Again, well said. I just let the last thread ramble on getting more and more out in left field and getting more into a ******* match than responding to what I initially took as a great oportunity for some of the talented people on this board a chance to broaden the knowledge base of the average do it yourself rodder. I hope that the initial idea expressed by Ironhunter gets off the ground and turns into a great site. We all know there is no subs***ute for verbal, written and graphic knowledge when it come to any hands on endeavor. If we are all concerned about how this hobby (obsession) is going to be carried on to the next generations then I think we should all be willing to provide what we know to anyone eager to learn. I also respect anyone who makes their living by publishing their knowledge. Since av8 has been the center of this side of the coin I'll state my opinion. His book on building a traditional hot rod is one of the best written on this subject. You can recover the cost of the book about a hundred times over if it keeps you from making mistakes or heading you in the right direction on building a rod. That said it might be bettr for him to stick to that kind of outlet for his talent. I know if he ever does another book on the subject it will be in my shop desk just like the first one. I built a car just like the one av8's book describes when I was 16 yrs old and for a guide I had a small book published by Hot Rod Magazine sometime in the 50's. Wish I still had it but it was lost along with many of the treasures of my youth in the constant moves my parents made after I left home (my dad was in the Air Force). I've rambled enough, just hope any wounds that have been opened by this subject will be repaired. Frank
I have not yet been able to find AV8's book, but when I do I will be certain to buy it. When I build a Rod, it will most likely be a Streetable Altered. I don't know how much AV8's book will help me on something like that, but I am sure that some of the info will apply. Besides that, I have heard enough about it that I would like to read it regardless of whether it has anything to do with what I decide to build...
Here you go bftwcs: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0760309000/qid=1063680208/sr=8-5/ref=sr_8_5/104-5612524-4028732?v=glance&s=books&n=507846
Thanks. Someone had told me that you could get it at Barnes & Noble, but I wasn't able to find it at our local store.
hopefully cooler heads will prevail, and things can get to a point that we can have a civil discussion on the subject.. as for takin a few on the chin,, i am ok with whatever grief i got,, hell i got an ex wife that would eat the worst of these guys for lunch... i also would like to say, that i dont think that the proposed site, no matter how good it may turn out to be will do anything to deminish the roster here at Hamb. i figure i aint going no where,, cant leave a perfectly good fight.... hehehehe bob
