I’m putting together a hot rod and bike run for mid July of this year. This will be a driving/riding event; not a car/bike show where you ooh and ahh at the purdy modes of transport.

There will be planned stops (gas, lunch, etc.), but for the most part this will be get in and drive. All roads will be paved, and there will be no interstate highways. In fact, 99% of the run will be on backwoods blacktops that will have lots of hills and curves, but very little other traffic.

While hot rodders tend to carry some tools and together we can prolly fix anything that breaks down, it would be a good idea to come in your “self-sufficient” mode. If you think you'll break down you prolly oughta consider going to some other run where there will be a trailer bringing up the rear to catch stragglers.

Please note that except for the date and the availability of 93 octane fuel that any and every detail, including the name, might change.

If anyone wants to go but has a small gas tank let me know. I’ll prolly lead on my bike and have someone driving Clarence (my '48 f-1 panel truck) at the rear. I can prolly put a couple of 5 gallon gas cans in Clarence and we can stop for someone that has a g***er with a 5 gallon gas tank that won't allow 125 - 150 miles between gas stops.

There are a couple of motels at kingdom city (exit 148 on I-70 in the center of Missouri) and at least 6 places to eat. Columbia is 20 miles west and is a town of 80,000 with all amenities.

If anyone wants to bring sleeping bags I’ll clean out enough of my shop for folks to sleep on the floor. I live half way between kingdom city and Columbia (about 10 miles each from the beginning and the ending points). There is 1/4 mile of gravel road between my house and the blacktop road.

There will also be a gathering at my house on Friday evening the 13th that you can attend if you chose.

Let me know ahead of time if you want to party at my house on the 13th &/or sleep on the shop floor.

This deal will happen regardless of how many or how few folks show up. Some of my local friends are already planning on it whether or not any out-of-towners come.

There might or might not be an entry fee, we haven't decided yet. If there is it won't be over $10 per bike/car. There might or might not be a pre-registration required. Again, we haven't decided. This is 6 months away and I’ll let you know in the next couple of months about fee/registration.

Mike (visor on the H.A.M.B.) is the other half of the planning committee for this deal, so if you have any comments or need any more info contact me or visor.

This will be advertised here on the H.A.M.B. and on the JJ and no where else. H.A.M.B.ers and JJers welcome. All “members” of the Opossum Benders and Vagabonds (local “non-clubs) are invited too, as well as a few of our local friends that don't do H.A.M.B. or JJ.

Please pm me at your earliest convenience if you have an interest in attending. If you have a question that others might want to see answered please respond here.

First Annual Show Me Reliability Run

    Saturday, July 14, 2007

Meet at the Denney's Diner in Kingdom City, Missouri (there are several places to get breakfast in Kingdom City in addition to Denney's Diner)

    Leave at 8:30 a.m.

Tour approximately 250 - 300 miles of Missouri countryside

All 2-lane blacktops; no interstate highways

End up at Mugs-Up in Columbia, Missouri, for supper
(a root beer drive in dating back to the mid 50's)

Hot Rods (1959 and older) and motorcycles invited. No cut-off date on cycles, but please no OCC or Ness style bikes.

93 octane gasoline is available at the starting point (Kingdom City), the ending point (Columbia), and a gas stop will be planned in the middle of the day at a place where 93 is available. Various other stops (lunch, scenic overlooks, etc.) will also be made.

  9. Unfortunately I more than likely won't be able to participate since I will probably be selling the coupe and the closest possible replacement is a 66 Buick Special 'vert. I will eventually build me another 34 out of fibergl*** though, seeins how I have the mold that was made from my car.

NICE. Don't know if I can make it yet, but it's definitely cool to see another driving event in the area.

If you can't find anything to drive I'd be honored to give ya a ride in Big Olds. I have lots of experience cruzn at speeds with a photographer hanging outta Big Olds snapping shots......just ask Tim B from R&C!:D

Sounds like fun. The 54 will be blue in about 2 weeks and she will have a fresh 327, power steering, and if all works out AC!

I stopped by the yard in Calwood and talked to Eddie. He said he had over 8000 cars and trucks in his yard. He has older stuff. If anyone wants to give him a call leave me a PM and I will get his phone number to you. Do Not just show up at his yard wanting parts because he will send you packin. (Kind of a strange fellow)

Call and ask about parts and he will set something up about pick up.

    we'll see ... we'll see...

really bad news if you just show up wanting something. and even if he will talk to you when you show up he won't go see if he has a part; he'll take your info and tell you to call him in a week or so and then he'll tell you if he has your part or not. and if he doesn't like you then i guarantee that he won't have your part.

So what will the driving actually be for? Just to drive and make some cool stops? Or is there a task to accomplish?

Either way it sounds like fun.
