Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kikinrods, Jan 9, 2007.

  1. Hey I have a 34 grille. Sell me your phaeton... (smile)

  2. I have a '34 truck grille (uses '32 insert) on my RPU - this cab started out as a phaeton.

what makes this care pictured above look cool is that the firewall is painted black- its the crazy firewall on a 34 that conflicts with the deuce grill shell...

i found this 34 on some site a while back and really dug the lakes look with the 40 ford hood... it also had the engine in the REAR...

My dad did it, but that was back in 1958 and it was all he had available.

I made one about 3 years ago and it was easier than you'd think.
It would be one you would run without a hood, but with a little care and time (took me 2 weekends) it can be done and will look nice.

I used 1inch tube and 1/8 round rod.

I was hoping that it would look good because I have a 33 pheaton (looking to trade her off wink wink;) ) and a 32 grill shell. I got both and wouldn't have put them together. But with the picture of the 5W with the black firewall looks good, now the one with the hood looks very good. I too like the look of the cut down truck grill.. oh well anyone want to trade:D

I had one on mine for a second, I never ran it, it just didn't look right.
I'm gonna go with a 37 truck eventually if I can find one. There was one at the swap meet this past weekend but it was a project for the bravest of men only.
A Fordson would be perfect but they are rarer than 33/34 grilles in this country.

The 2007 NSRA giveaway car is getting this treatment...I am building the 32 insert with horizontal tubes, and it will be going on a 34 roadster body with full hood and hoodsides...I will get pics soon. Or it can be scene in some of the latest car mags.

  16. I mocked this up years ago, still the plan. I worked on it about two months ago for a couple of days and then jumped onto something else. Was going to try and make the JalopyRama. Now I'm building a 32 roadster for me and a 29 sedan on 32 rails for a customer. Then I'll get back to this. It killz me this aint on the road yet. I will leave the top part of the flat firewall and cut the bottom off to allow the sides to hug the motor. Thats the set up, looks like it was made to fill that void. When I grew up everyone loved Zepplin, I never listened to it just to be different, dumb move. So run a 34, and dont do what I'm doing. In fact they dont make these hoods anymore. I have the 34 grill, but I'm saving cause it matches the car...and I hope to put it on a 34 roadster someday.

I love that pic Tuck, never seen it before...thanks.

Since I'm a total sucker for 33-34 Fords, I would normally say that they just ain't right with a 32 shell on 'em...but as always, there are exceptions to every 'rule'!!:D

This car will always give me goosebumps...and I wouldn't change a THING!!

(34 Ford drag car circa 1962)...
