Well it has been a while since a official update on the old drag car 1938 Ford Coupe. I have been real busy with customer cars and just have not had a extra minute to actually put any effort into this. Thanks to the Hamb I have come into contack with all the drivers and previous owners. I have learned alot about this car, the fun times the had, and shared the fun times I expect to have. In the last 2 months I have picked up a 59-60 Pontiac 389 all fresh ready to go, standard bellhousing, Rebuilt muncie 4 speed, shifter, radiator, another rear end, and alot of smaller parts. My first thought was to throw it together for the Roundup. But I ust dont know if my marriage would survive another mad thrash 3 years in a row. Oh well I can altleast say I could do it if I really wanted too. So last night I am sitting there looking at this model a Coupe I am building and I am at the point of the build where I can loose focus because all the gay stuff starts getting involved like AC etc. You know things a hot rod does not need. I call my dad and after about a 5 minute coversation about other stuff (32). I get off of the phone, and say what the hell lets throw this motor in there and see how it fits. So last night I pulled alittle Dirty mojo out called in sicj to the customer and finally worked on my own for alittle. It was time to make motor mounts and it was 1 in the morning and since I had to be up in three hours I figured I better go to bed Rusty
Lets see, motor mounts, rebuild brakes, slip in a dropped axle, get gas tank cleaned, driveshaft cut, pumkin changed out, Plumb everthing and I think I could make it to the Roundup with the whole family inside, Just a thought
Mad thrash? Hell you've got 2 and a half months. That car looks like a months worth of weekends would get it on the road. Can't wait to see it....in Austin!
I think if you can scotchbrite off a bit more of that old paint its got to say "AUSTIN or BUST" on it somewhere!!!
Oh man, my old man is a huge fan of pontiac motors and I grew up beatin the snot out of em and they held up very well. Your going to bewilder the gold chainers with that combo though. A 38 Ford with an old Pontiac motor in it??????
That's pretty nice but I was surprised to hear the dropped axle thing though. It looks good up in the air.
Yes the motor is going back a couple more inches. This car was running a 389 in it when it was last driven. If it was there before it should go again. I am waiting on my hurst mount to get in and we will see how it looks then. It is in serious mockup mode
sounds like that $400.00 came in handy. or will, when you need to buy yourself out of the dog house. man it's looking cool. keep us posted. -danny
I know I just aint much of a g***er builder. I love looking at them, love seeing them cruise, but just dont like looking up over the hood, I think it may be my age coming out and always being around something with a rake, Anyhow know matter what I got it make it mine. I may just go with a old dago 40 axle, I know it wont slam it but it will be something that would have been done back then. Motor still has to go back 2"
Updates**** Got the frozen/stuck axles out as well as the Pumkin, Gonna try this thrash alittle at a time every night as time permits, may make the roundup, but aint gonna kill myself this time, we will see. Got to clean out the old housing, and put in the new pumkin, and brakes.
You guys should see this in person that motor is huge in there. Your hair starts blowing back just looking at it...
