anyone use Jamco's rear suspension package to replace leafs and lower your ride? i've checked them out and they have a good price on the package....will get you up to 4" lower than stock height. just wondered if anyone has any experiance with Jamco? p.s. - this would be going on a '53 chevy 210. thanks. any input would be great! Chris
This last issue of Custom Rodders mentions them, used them for a \n Olds (I think) disc brake conversion.
Look at the Rod and Custom web site, under tech they have two stories on lowering a shoebox using Jamco products. They use a little more than just the lowering kits, but the meat is still there. Now Rod and Custom may not be the end all on car builds, but if Jamco is good enough for them, I think they are good enough for most anyone else. I've purchased a radiator from them and I'm going to order the front and rear lowereing kits this week, if I can get him to answer the phone....
yea, i've been doing some research on them and the generalization is Jamco is good stuff. granted most of the info i've found have been on shoeboxes. but i appreciate the reply. let me know how your suspension kit is when you get it in...i plan on ordering mine here pretty soon take care.
I had thier spring front and rear in my '50, rode nice, I had thier -4 (I think) front and rear with fatman spindles up front and 2" blocks in the rear, at that point the driveshaft yoke was just touching the floor boards over bumps but ehh... you know! But yeah, the Jamco stuff was good and fit well. and they were always there for follow up tech and support.
I've had Jamco 3" lowering springs in my shoebox since 1997, together with 1" blocks. They have worked fine. Jamco owner Jim Genty is a good guy, too.
Jamco has been around a long time. Jim has been building shoeboxes a long time and knows what he's doing. This is a company of people who know about cars, not just trying to make a buck off of us. Craig
I ordered my stuff last Friday. Jim said that all my stuff will come as he gets it ready. They custom make each order as it is placed, so there is a 2 to 3 week turnaround on part's orders. So if you have a schedule you are trying to meet, keep this in mind.
thankfully i'm not really on a schedule of any kind...cept for getting the '53 on the road...hehe. thanks for the tip though. Chris
http://www.jamcosuspension.com/index.html 707-544-4950 Jim is a single man operation out there in California, he's on west coast time, try him around noon eastern. If you don't get a hold of him, leave a message. It may take a day or so, but he will return your call.
My buddy and I just put Jamco 3" springs in my 52 Chevy coupe yesterday, took us about 2 hours, did one side at a time and man its GREAT. Brought the car down 3+ inches. Car rides great and I have not even put the gas shocks in yet....
I've gotten Jim on Saturdays on one ring, but mostly I've emailed him. All good on this end. We designed a brake system for my car over the phone and he pieced it together for me. I have Jamco suspension front and rear (besides steering and rear brake components) and I have no complaints.
I placed my order last Friday for the front -3" and rear -4" deluxe lowering kits. The front and rear springs and the axle bolts came today, I'm kind of surprised, Jim told me to expect stuff in 2 to 3 weeks and my understanding was the springs would be the hold up, so hopefully the rest will be here soon. I'll post a before and after picture when I'm done.
yeah just put in the 3 inch leafsprings and shocks and what not put it on the ground and its the same height anybody got a suggestion did i forget to take something out ?
The thing that many people forget, is that the anount of drop you get is less than the Stock ride height. Stock as in the height it was when your car came out in the 50's. Not the height your 50 year old plus springs are today.
