    Bummer.

A class act, for sure. His cars always looked great - and most often ran that way too. Not sure how many of you know this, but Landy had apparently gotten into flatheads bigtime. I have a well-to-do friend who had been in contact with him over the last couple years, and was getting some really cutting-edge tips for a Bonneville flatty project he's doing.

He was quite the engine man, and not afraid to try something new. I remember seeing one of his cars at the Winternationals (around 1970) that was using a "flat" crankshaft. Made the MoPar V-8 sound like an inline 6-cyl. Very wierd.

BTW - I always chuckle to myself when you young guys are so surprised about the oldtimers passing. Might as well face it boys and girls. No one gets out alive - even the "heros". Maybe something to give some thought to while you're still in your prime?

    R.I.P. Dandy Dick.

Dandy Dick Landy was the man in the 60's . He made those Dodge hot rods fly. I still have a couple of pictures of his cars that I cut out of old hot rod magizines when I was a kid.

Sucks bad enough when an ol' legend dies and even worse when those legends are a step above the rest. Most definately lost a one of a kind.

Dick partnered up with Ron Mains to build "The World's Fastest Flathead" - known as "Flatfire" that holds the record at over 300 MPH.

    http://www.flatfire.com/enginedev.htm

Dick did some ammazing things to a single flathead engine that pushed the car into the record book. (who ever said the "flathead was dead!?")

When I met him at Bonneville, he was always "chomping" on his favorite cigar and dressed to the "nines."

Dick; I'll miss you and your "vast" knowledge of how to make an engine go "even faster!"
