    Sorry for the off topic post, but I have a feeling somebody here can help me with this:

    Does anyone here have any experience setting up timing with the Boyer electronic ignition on a Triumph? I'm putting my motor back together from the crank up, and have it set at top dead center, but I'm not sure where to set the magnetic pickup and plate as a good starting point.

    I don't have a copy of the setup instructions and a search for them on the net hasn't yielded any results.

    So, anybody ever timed a Triumph with elec. ignition or have a copy of the instructions? Motor is a '71 TR6R if that helps. Thanks!

    pretty simple, at TDC i think, at least with one of the timing marks lined up on the left side, install the magnet part on the crankshaft loosely, then the circuit plate, put the plate in the middle of its adjustment, turn the crank plate until one of the magnets lines up with the hole in the front plate of the boyer, and tighten the crank plate, that should get you in the ballpark.

    OK, I think I know what you are talking about, and that doesn't sound too hard. My only other question is, which hole in the circuit plate do I use? There is one marked anti-clockwise timing, and clockwise timing.

    I'm also ***uming that it doesn't matter which magnet on the pickup you line up, correct? Thanks, Ray.

    Ya gotta figure out if the rotor spins clockwise or not, use the respective timing hole. And no it doesn't matter which magnet you use.

    On my BSA there's no timing marks, I had to measure TDC with a dial indicator then rotate the crank back until I reached the dial reading that corresponded with full advance. I made two scribe lines on the electrical stator so I wouldn't have to go through it again, but I still have to find true TDC before setting up a timing pointer.

    The Boyer was a night and day difference, but don't try to use a battery charger as a power supply to get it started first time around.

    So I guess I could kick it through to check which way the rotor spins, then return it to TDC?

    Sweet! That helps.

    I'm really pushing to have this thing pretty much done by the Roundup in two weeks. Thanks for the help fellas.

    And $30 for that wheel was a steal no matter what the condition. Good score!

  8. Try this link;
    http://www.oldbritts.com/boyer_install.html

    They are great put one in my Triump,easy.
    After you get it in(static)line up white dot to get running
    and remove cover in primary case at the altenator and
    you`ll find timing mark and a pointer to strobe it.
    This only possible for later unit motors.

    This one is better;
    http://www.mapenterprises.net/mapcycle/tech_info.

    Click on boyer,it`s java script very thorough.

    One more thing,you got to have 6volt coils,too much resistance if you use 12vs.
    An older Harly (single coil double leads)is good too,
    anything that is under 4 ohms.
    Boyer says you can use your stock12s,but if you do expect
    trouble.
    JR..

    Good Luck...JR
