I was going to keep this and wear it but it would be a crime to cover up my long luxurious mane.... Actually... I picked this up recently at an estate sale with the intention of doing a HAMB auction with it, and I just noticed I'm rolling over 2,000 posts (again)... This is made of pressed cardboard with cloth covering. It's a bit grungy but it's straight and solid. A few dings in the cloth and some staining. The strap is gone from the front but it has the headgear inside. It also has "Jennie" printed in pen on the top. Might be a good one to paint and stripe. I think it's one like was worn by the Africa Corps in the 40's... but I'm not totally sure of it. Ends Friday the 19th at 9pm... Same drill as always... Winner pays RYAN and I'll pay shipping. Bid high... Bid often... JOE
No bid (I've already got one, but not in as nice a shape) but some additional info: that appears to be a U.S. military helmet (the crown on the Afrika Korps helmets was different), probably U.S. Navy in all likelihood. They kept using them at least through the Vietnam-era. Nice solid headgear, great for mowing the lawn or pretending you're at Bonneville. -Dave
BIGCHEESE327- You're right... I was way off the mark on that one. I'm no expert (obviously) but I figured you guys would dig it. It is a US helmet. Looks alot like this one of Harry S. Trumann's... JOE
Is US Marine hat, used about 1936--1965, standard dry lakes garb... Military one can be distinguised by the grommet at front center (compare with Truman lid), which is for your Globe&anchor insignia in the USMC. Is necessary posession for rodder.
I don't think we're going to get any snow, but thats what the white stuff on the ground on the Ranch Run was! See you at Del Mar in a couple of months Jerry?
