alright. who's local out there??? i've talked to Jimmy White and we plan to visit his shop seeing as he has so graciously offered to show us around. we'd like to line up some other "activitys" for the precious few days we will be there too. i've never even been to California before so i'm as giddy as a school girl about this whole trip. i just wish i could afford to stay longer but the damn hotel room price is a bitch!!! oh well, i should save some vacation time for other shows this year. so here is what is up with our little group and what we're hoping to see and do. the Ionia Hot Rod Shop crew (Hotroddrummer and his dad Denny) are driving out and should be there wednesday or early thursday. GMgrunt and i (and possibly Duecephaeton and his son) are flying in and should be there by noon thursday and are flying back out late sunday night. Denny tells me it will take a good two days to see the whole show but that leaves 2 days and 4 evenings/nights that we will need to be (cheaply) entertained. Denny realy wants to see Foose's shop and so do i. anybody got an "in" there?????? i think a visit to the NHRA museum will get squeezed in somewhere too. so what else is there to do and see in the good ole Pomona area??? i'm sure HRD and myself will be up for downing some beers, at least a couple nights, while the old timers take their gerital and watch Jerry Springer in the hotel room . so speak up. who is gonna be our tour guide??? i tried to "volunteer" Evel but he is ignoring me. guess i can't blame him. i'll be hooking up with that sexy gal Mel and her boyfrined Abe Lugo (lucky bastard!!!) at least on day aswell.
can't be a tour guide cause i might not go to the show. if you can make it to Burbank check out Bob's big boy in Burbank for the friday night cruise. it's a mixed crowd. then there's the Peterson museum. SoCal speed shop is about 10 min. from the GNRS show. you can get a tour of the shop. hmm not sure what else... Jimmy should keep you entertained though. Mel and Abe are good people.
[/quote] while the old timers take their gerital and watch Jerry Springer in the hotel room . FUCK YOU....... MIKE! Jeeeeez, Get it right, it's lipitor we're taking and watching Maury!
Where is the hangout friday night or saturday night, any local bars good where people hangout after the show?
You won't have to squeeze the museum in, it is located on the fairgrounds and is open during the GNRS. Bob's was mentioned as well as So Cal. Speed, Chili keeps touting El Merendero, there is Los Jarritos on Garey, or La Paloma on Foothill for Mexican also. Donut Derelicts meet in Hunington Beach on Saturday morning, although it is early and it sounds as though you may be chasing refreshments during the evening hours.
Axle's party sure sounds like the thing to do. I haven't been to any of his gigs since he started doing the in Riverside. The show's in Orange sure were neat. I mention El Merendero because it's right next to the fairgrounds. And during the Winternationals and the Finals that's where you can eat breakfast with Connie Kallita, John Force and the rest of the NHRA hitters. How's THAT for traditional?
You've got to check out The Early Ford Store in San Dimas. By far the neatest store I've ever been to. http://www.earlyfordstore.com/home.html And Evel makes fun of me but I always have to eat at "The Hat" . http://www.thehat.com/
another Musuem worth looking at is http://www.justicebrothers.com/pages/racing-museum/racing&museum.htm My bro's inlaw gave me one of them car muesums of the us dvd set and that one seemed cool, it's in Acradia about 15-20min west of Pomona, a lot of original hot rods and curtis craft migets there.
If ya care to have some cold ones at a fellow HAMB'rs hangout.....bigfootlodge.com. Real easy to get to and right off the 5 frwy. Pm bobby green on the Hamb. KNUX!
BenD, I got your back on The Hat! I was born in Jersey and that is as good as it gets on the left coast! One bite of those pastrami samichiches and you can HEAR your arteries closing up. Check with Jimmy to see it Chad it still working at CCHR. talk about entertainment. Vance
corner of adams and magnolia in huntington beach. googling donut derelicts should give ya the answer to this. peace.
Exit the 405 frwy,go south a couple miles. It's on the lefthand side. Gets goin about 5AM,so you better get there early. People are gone by 8.
I second the Justice Brothers museum. They have some seriously cool stuff there. I'll also give another thumbs up to the cruise night at Bob's Big Boy and the Peterson Museum. You really should go because they have a great Roth exhibit going on now
When's a good time to hit Bob's Friday night? I had also heard of a cruise at Brooklyn Pizza in huntington Beach on Suday. Is this one worth a visit and what time does that one start? 2 more weeks...I can't wait!! Thanks, LSM
BTTT Anyone? Are there any other cruises in the Pomona/Long Beach/LA area we should try to hit while there?
Bob's runs from 6-10pm on Fridays. It's usally getting busy by 7 and 8, but should be packed all night due to the show that weekend. Here's all you'll ever need to know about cruise nights in the area... http://www.socalcarculture.com/cruise_nights.html
What's this Geritol shit. GMGrunt is right it's Lipitor and 40mgs at that! Little Fish oil too. Glad your line'in up an agenda. With as little time as we have we should get together and go over the plans before we head out. Perhaps at Grunt's Shop. NHRA Museum is in Pomona Peterson's is just down the hi-way and a little north. Have to look up Huntington Beach. REmember to bring a MAP. and save time to stick your foot in the Pacific. That's a right of passage for a vigin to CAL.
good thinking. Mongo and i did that in the Atlantic years ago when we visited Ron John Surf Shop in Cocoa Beach Florida.
there is NO shortage thats for sure..the early Ford store, the justice brothers...Nhra museum..all must go to..then theres all the shops in the area who are usually so gracious...I went for fathers day..had an awesome time...can't wait to be out there for the GNRS...
