So I'm putting a Weber 40mm 2 barrel on my bug and I need to take off the end castings to fit in the new middle section for the weber. I've tried all my wrenches but I can't fit anything in there, any suggestions? This such a pain in the ***, anyhelp would be nice.

    thanks-nicholas

You Need A Socket To Fit In There !!!!!!!!

You Will Never Get It With A Wrench !!!!!!!!!

Just a thought, but maybe you can install the carb onto the manifold and then install the manifold?

A socket, a universal joint, and a short extension.

well, vw manifolds have 3 peices to them and I need to slide out the middle piece of the manifold, putting the carb on really plays no part in this. Its all about the manifold......

1/4" drive universal joint socket on a long (12") extension, 13mm if I recall right. It is pretty tight around the intake castings.

Now that I think about it some more, once you get them off, replace the 13mm nuts with 12 mm hex nuts off of a rice burner. Gives you some more room next time.

If it's a single port take a box end wrench and heat and bend it until it's got all the right angles then cut it to length so you can get moe than 1/8 turn, this is a real *****, but then if your taking out the center section it's 13mm nuts in the dual port heads. I used to use a short socket and a wobbly, it was still pretty slow going but it worked. It's kinda like adjusting the clutch on a volksie, you just gotta be patient. Dont over tighten 'em going back in, they can and do crack.

    Good luck,
    Tim

VW questions usually draw fire here. It's not what the site is about.

And by the way, a few of us have touched "dirty girls" once in our lifes but you don't see us asking questions about STD's...

    :D

You got your answer. I'm just funnin' ya.

Desoto WAS being helpful. It can't be done with a wrench, which is what you ask about. He said use a socket. Maybe you need someone to come do it for you!!

  18. so, people who like vw's are dumb***es??? not the one's i know.

  19. Thanks, Matt.

There's VW powered dragsters in the mid- 6's in the /14 mile.
    There's street-driver door-slammers in the low 9's
    To the original poster-

Get some 12mm nuts, go into Autozone and ask for exhaust nuts for a Vanagon.
Get a 12mm, 1/4 inch drive, that has a universal incorporated into it.
I used to work for both of the US-based VW magazines, if you have any questions, to avoid WorldWar 3, just PM me.

This Thread could have ended here, because Tudor took care of it.

    Thanks for doing that... :)
