brought home the 56 ford today, so i guess i have a little more work cut out for me. I still dont think i did to bad at 500 considering the motor and trans only has 20,000 miles and it came with a title. Plans are to get the body close and add some paint, wheels, and drive it. thoughts on wheels and paint? wheres the best place to get parts? any help appreciated
also does anyone know of a good place to get parts for it, or does anyone have parts for one? i need fenders, runningboards, and wiring harness for starters. ill probably use an ezwire setup for the harness.
Travis...John Harris has a bunch of parts. PM 46Mopar. He replied to the Posie post. Rear fenders are the same up to the mid seventies. Mac's is a good source for the misc. stuff. What's the suspension on it? Stock? Might want to do something with the front end. You would be able to recoop money on the steering box and brakes. Color?? Pink for you southern homos!! Clark
front end parts are all original. it has the 460 big block in it and the oil pan is about 2 inches from the axle so i know if i hit a bump it will be in to the pan. whats the parts worth? rear fenders are ok needs new fronts. what should i do for a new front susp? I know they have mustang 2 but there pricey.
Mustang would be the best bet. S-10 is too narrow and if you're gonna run the Ford motor it adds to the problems. Might be some other options. Box goes for $100-150 Brakes go for $50-100 BTW..I picked up some axles and springs and have some extras when you're ready for the T Clark
what is the website to macs? what companies make mustang 2s? matt needs one for that 60 dodge also. probably a long shot on that one. how much on the axle and spring? still would like to run the eliptics though
so i looked at mustang 2 susp last night and there all about 1600. i s there anywhere else that may be less $.
Fatman has about the cheapest Mustang kits. They might even have one for Matts. I put one in a 50 Dodge truck. Maybe put F100 in your title and the F100 guys will chime in. Your title sounds like you had a baby. You'll have to hit edit on your first post the go advanced. Clark
LMC truck has almost every part you need. http://www.lmctruck.com/ Classic Performance is good for suspension. Stock or lowered http://www.classicperform.com/
I have a 47 and plan on getting all my body panels from northern classic truck http://www.northernclassictrucks.com/
I have virtually all the parts you need but being on the opposite side of the country poses a problem. Keep your eyes open, these trucks pop up all over the place and just like yours, you can get them for not much money in that condition. I buy most of my replacement parts from Midfifty but I have used Classic Auto Parts and John's F-Fun Hundreds as well. I bought two new repop fenders and the splash pan at Classic for $750. Depending on what direction you are going with the truck you may want to look into the aftermarket inner fenders, they'll give you more clearance under the hood and they look a lot cleaner. Get the roof repaired first, that corrosion around the drip rail is a killer...it lets water build down in the cab corners and rots them out quick. Good luck with your project, you'll find that there are MANY suppliers out there who carry virtually every part on these trucks...some are even affordable!
http://www.industrialchassisinc.com/ http://www.midfifty.com/ http://www.dennis-carpenter.com/ & damn...nice garage!!!
Yes, the truck has the stock axle and modified leaf springs. The PO installed an extra set of bumpstops halfway between the rear shackle and the axle on the frame above the front leaf springs to limit the travel of the spring...it keeps the axle from hitting the 460 crossmember (my crossmember is lower than the 460 oil pan) but it rides like a tank. I also have the power ram assist system which works very well and makes the truck a whole lot easier to steer. It doesn't help compensate for a loose steering box but that's another story.I have some experience with Corvette suspension, I used a C4 IRS & IFS on my 50 Merc, so I am now considering either a C4 or a C5 front suspension for this truck. Go to the Ford Truck Enthusiasts forum http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41 and you will find a wealth of information specific to early F100s. I don't feel bad suggesting another forum here on the HAMB because I see guys on the FTE forum all the time telling folks to go the HAMB to get answers on various technical issues.
Ditto on what all these guys said. New sheetmetal like fenders and running boards are pretty new to the market and a little expensive. 'glass ones have been around and are a bit cheaper. shop around there are TONs of these trucks out there. you can also cruise on over to the FTE Ford truck Enthusists forum, they have a 48 - 60 only forum. lots of good helpful people over there. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/index.php dang i wish i had a garage like that....
all great info. i requested a cataloge from everyone i could. again thanks for the help. charliled again thanks and it is to bad your 2400 miles away or i think id be buying most of those parts off of you. fortunatly another fellow hamber lives close by and i was informed he has many of the parts i need so i might make out ok. the big expense is going to be the front susp. i would leave the straight axle but the 460 that was installed sits too low and the oil pan looks as though it will hit the oil pan on the fist bump i hit. I may try to raise the engine in the frame and keep the stock susp but the steering on it is pretty hard with all that weight up front.
Camero / nova front clip, C4 vette rear, SBC/700R4. Good combo for a cruiser.....except the stock seat, it sucks. Put a good seat in it....& don't fill the cowl vent (wish mine still worked!!!).
oh and whats a good place for a wiring harness? painless i know is good but there so expensive, and i have heard of e z wire but cannot find them. most of the wiring on the truck was ripped out so i might as well start over with all new.
Part of your steering problem is that small steering wheel someone put on it. If you're going to keep the stock steering you'll need the larger stock steering wheel too. An easy power steering conversion (I'm told) is an 84 4X4 Toyota power steering box.
in the bed of the truck theres about three steering collumns and 3 wheels in the cab so im sure one of them is either the original or close in size to the original.
PM or email me. I am on 3 sites everyday, here, http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=41 and Streetrodding.com. I know of some used parts sources closer to you. There is a gentleman in Brideport, West Virginia that sells used parts and also there is hotrodstrucks.com in Springfield,OH which sells almost everything Mid 50's does. Dennis Carpenter is pricey but sells good stuff. Mid 50's is everybody's favorite for price and service. ALso there is a used parts vendor named Flashback F100 down in Reidsville, NC 336-421-3979. The Ford truck wesbsite would be a great source of info as well as here. Just use the search function on both. I am fairly confident your questions have been posed and discussed. Search and enjoy. IF I can help in anyway let me know and welcome to F100 country. Here is my beater going down the road on the way to the F100 Supernationals in National riding with a caravan of about 30 other F100's. http://public.fotki.com/eds56/super-tour-iv/day-6/tour113.html One more good website http://www.pickupslimited.com/ check out there Newsletter Haulin Freight
awesome thanks for the input i will def use all the sources supplied and keep updating onthe progress
