An' the guy Says " Yeah, runs great! Downhill with a tailwind........Also, you better look for something soft to hit when you stop 'cause the brakes don't work either"

This thread has some great stuff in it.

  3. I don't think it's anyones business here what he paid for it. That's not the question. The question is the integrity of the seller.

IF the seller knew the engine was junk, he should've told the buyer that, regardless of the vehicle price. If he didn't know, he should have said so. Sometimes ya' need to volunteer information.

I just can't wait for some of you "BLAME THE VICTIM GUYS" to get shafted because ya' didn't ask some very specific pointed questions to a seller. AND..........it'll probably be an expensive purchase ;) .

These are the same folks that'll be cryin' the blues, sayin' you were deceived, callin' the seller a crook and probably even threaten to burn his house down  .

Sorry I have to quote myself. I disagree with you on this one modifieddriver, but I do see your point.

  5. Oh you're WAY TOO LATE for that!! It's happened to me and you know who's fault it was? MINE!! I didn't blame the seller, I blamed myself BUT I've not made the same mistake again. I volunteered to be the 'victim' every time I got screwed.

I think BadMonkeyMW realizes he should have looked a little harder and longer at this purchase before the cash changed hands. We all know that. And I think he realizes he was blowing off steam in a manner that could have caused some here to get their BVDs in a twist as well.

Yes, I'll agree that the seller should have 'fessed up IF he knew about the bad motor. But, here's the rub, trusting a seller to know every detail or disclose every bad thing is a little naive.

I think we've all learned something valuable here. Now join me in singing a little song while we make some S'Mores and become friends again.

    Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
    Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya
    Kumbaya my Lord, kumbaya

    Someone's singing Lord, kumbaya

Idle threats are taken seriously by the law though......I learned the hard way.......I was living in Fl. a few yrs. ago, was kicking my girl friend out for numerous reasons. Told her that if she didn't get her sh*t out, I would put it in a pile and burn it in the yard tomarrow? I know stupid temper tantrum stuff, BUT, I SPENT 10 MONTHS IN JAIL fighting some serious charges......None of them stuck, but, 10 months GONE, truck got repode, credit cards gone delinquent(didn't spell that right?) ect. long story short........Move on!

  8. A similar situation happened to me when I bought my 47 ford 1/2 ton off ebay. The guy described it as good running ford that needed a brake light switch and floor boards. The truck was in deleware and I'm from mass. I bought the truck for $1500 and drove the 16 hours to get it. When I showed up the truck barely ranand it needed a lot more than floor boards, i.e. floors, kick panels, front cab mounts, rear cab panel and cab corners. Not to mention a new transmission and rear end. I sucked it up, paid the man (I didn't feel like going home empty handed after driving that far) and drove home. I am in the process of rebuilding it now. It's a lot more work than what I was expecting but what can ya do. You live and learn. On the bright side I use my mistake as motivation to finish it so it doesn't feel like I got ripped off as much.

  9. How cold does it get there? Maybe it was fine, and froze one winter. I have seen whole block sides gone from freezing...200 Fords have water passages right on the side. Is there a rod hanging out...not trying to add fuel to the fire, but maybe it DID run when parked, and not drained or whatever and cracked. Owner would have no idea. Around here, you really gotta watch that as well.
Either way, like ost are stating, live and learn. I have been burned too...and pissed off royaly, but if it is something you really like, it just makes the project that much better when the hurtle is cleared.

I may be an FNG, but I've been around here long enough to know that "How much did you buy/sell it for?" is asked here and answered here dozens of times every day.

None of this shit is anybody's business 'till you post it on the internet for about 20,000 guys to hack over all week-end.

It's not like I lost any sleep over his dilema. I just think it's interesting we don't know what it cost, and that he's surprised at the reaction here. :)
