I've been happy to be iced in... fixed some wiring in my lowered shoebox, restored a steering wheel and fabbed a horn mechanism and custom horn button... hopefully tomorrow we're safely "working from home" due to the ice... I have a brake line to replace. :D

If you live in central tx... keep the hell off the roads. Learned that the hard way last time.

HRP, No ice? I used to live in Anderson in 93-95 behind the Bi Lo on Simpson Road. It was amazing to sit in the appartment and watch the locals slide down the hill on the 1/4 inch of ice. On the other hand, they always cancelled the entire city if there was a chance to get bad weather.

I just drive in it here. We've had ice the last few days and it is a mess on the highways and byways.

And, yes, my DD is 4WD.

I have a 94 Caprice Wagon and I ended up having to bump the rear back up a bit. I always made it through snow fine but roadkill kept on bending the snot out of my shift cable bracket.

I installed a late model Blazer center console with shifter in it and for it to work you have to use a cable. Cable bracket attaches to bottom of tranny.

Roadkill hits bracket bending it backwards making it difficult and once nearly impossible to shift.

Shit, 40's is shorts weather in Wisconsin. When I was in grade school it snowed in June once.

As for the guy with the wagon, a pair of bags to raise the front up might be the way to go. You don't even need a compressor or tank, just bolt them in, T them off and put a Schraeder valve in there. Then you can drop it down for daily cruising and pump them back up when it snows. That setup would only cost MAYBE $150 and take an afternoon to install. Ready-made brackets for the Roadmaster/Caprice are availible (those brackets are what I used in my '64 Olds, fit like a glove)

A pair of air shocks in the back and you'd be set.

Or if you are into open cars you can cruise either one of these in the snow.
    Or the lifted 34.

I sure hear ya', Mick. Just glad I bought my 'Burb' a few months ago, so I don't have to drive the '55 or my over-powered SWB '63. They would have never made it out of the driveway today, and we didn't have it as bad here as y'all did in north Okieland. This cold weather just SUCKS!!!

    Mick,

We braved the sleet and ice on Saturday and thrashed on Whitey's car. Four of his fellow Them! members got out in the nasty weather, came to his shop and made some good progress on his '52. Sometimes snow and ice can be a good thing! (I think thier wives just wanted them out of the house!)

Lucky you! We are 4 snow storms for 4 weekends in a row now. Woo Hoo, can't wait for next weekend to see what we get now.

Maybe I can sell some snow to people in states that didn't get it to raise money for my truck! LOL:D

Somebody in Colorado already sold some snow to somebody for $200 bucks on Ebay!

Man it is so kool to drive a Lowered car in bad weather. I was the koolest
one on the road this morning. Big old heavy white "Roadmaster" wagon riding
along in the white sleet /ice. Look like a kool moving ice skulpture.

With all of the replies It looks like I need to build me a garage. This way I would not care if I was stuck with bad weather.

    Happy Trails,

    Mick

The rest are all coming up to the desert. It's 20 degrees as I type at 7:30 am. I think it only got to 40 yesterday. I came to CA to get away from that shitty cold damnit!

When I lived back east, I always believed CA had perfect flat roads because of all the low cars. They don't, it's just people have figured out how to deal with scraping. People who have never been up here might not know about the desert roads... There's not many drain pipes, because they're generally not needed. So, they're usually big dips at intersections for drainage. I've hit a couple that almost sent me airborn when I didn't know they were there. My car is lowered about 2-3" in the front, I drag headers, so I learned real quick. These ricer kids will come to a full stop and go across them at a 45 degree angle.

Funny thing is, with all the housing everywhere, a lot of the trenches have a constant stream of water from runoff from people watering their yards... so the car stays dirty. And when it rains... you just about need pontoons! That water takes a while to drain off, so it collects on the sides of the roads. I've gone through it so deep it almost killed the engine because the water was blocking the exhaust!

Never thought about that shit before I came out here! I do not, ever, ever miss snow though!!

my 91 capricewagon winter driver is on air no problems. yesterday -40f reg temp not windchill, been this way for a week up here our city plows the residential streets 2 times a winter and when they do they just level off the ruts usually leaving 5-6" of packed snow on the street. but all main and bus routes are cleared.
but what the hell garage is heated so work goes on. and it gets in the 90s in summer
