I already know the answer, but sometimes I go blind when I'm looking at project cars Two years ago I looked at a 60 Coupe DeVille--good solid car, last ran in 1988. Price was right so I bought it...but then the guy backed out and refunded my money later that day. It's a long protracted (family)story, plus he's a friend, so it was cool. Last Friday a guy comes by the shop telling me about a 62 convertible for sale. I scraped up enough time to go look at it yesterday, and I'm sort of in negotiations on it.........well...guess who called this morning? The guy with the 60---it's mine if I still want it. Done deal, no squirreling and 500 bucks less Both cars are in about the same shape--need cosmetics, not running, etc. I don't NEED either one--I've got a cherry 57 coupe deVille that's almost done... So what do I do? My heart says buy 'em both. My brain says throw money at what I already have.My pocketbook says sell something first(like the v8 S10 longbed I bought Friday) I like 60s better than 57s(but mine is excellent)....but my first car was a 62........ Buy 'em both and keep all 3? What say you?
Go with the option that you know will cause you the least regret later. I think if it were me I'd buy the 60 and store it, drive the s10 a while for fun then sell that and use the cash to make my 60 a driver while I finish the 57. I wish I had this problem.
if it were me id buy the 60; especially if they were in pretty much the same shape...im not partial to convertibles.
Get off your wallet and buy them both. Then decide LATER after you've had a chance to fall in like with one more then the other. IF it were me, it'd be the ragtop hands down but you know how I like to cruz topless. In any event just get ONE done and driveable so I can make out in your backseat at the drive-in. You'll probley have a workable backset before me.
I agree with duration buy'm both or eventually you'll be coulda woulda shoulda. Looking back the only deals I really regret is the ones I didn't do.
Buy both and then when you decide which one goes away, sell me the motor and then you can sell the body.I just loves them caddy motors
Buy the '60 (I'm not partial to converts anyway) and the '60 is a more popular Caddy...I was in the same boat last year at this time...working on a '48 Caddy Sedanet...a '55 Coop DeVille called...Yeah, I bought it.....cuz the '55 is closer to being done...so the '48 went back in storage for next year... I don't think you can ever go wrong with Caddys...even if you have to store one for a later date... R-
If you can swing it buy both. If you only buy one and start jonesing for the other you are SOL if it's no longer available. You'll know, if and when, it's time to dump one-or the other. Me-I'd buy both and keep both, but I'm sick.
both are great cars. buy which one is the best deal for the best condition. if they both are a great deal, buy both. if equal values / condition and i had to make a choice-- i'd probably take the vert. -scott noteboom
Go with the 60 ... nothing beats that year of fins except the 59 ... and a decent coupe deville is hard to come by at a decent price. Lucky bastahd.
you can sell me the 62 if its a 2 door then that will fix every thing. My first caddy was a 62 and you own the heart of it now haha
I would be very interested in purchasing one of the cars if you pass on them. I'm in the market for a early 60's Caddy. If you decide you dont want one or the other, please drop me a line. danbenck@hotmail.com
