Does anyone know of a company that makes a 302 chevy crank? it needs to be 3" stroke with a 2.45" main journal, and a 2.10" rod journal. And if i couldn't find one how much would it cost to have one custom ground, i saw that **** custom grinds cranks, but i'm not looking to spend $2500 on a crank. I know i can use a 283 crank in a sj 327 block, or bore to 283 to 4". But i can't really find a decent sj 327 and i don't really feel comfortable with that much of an overbore. It would be nice if i could just use a 350 block and get a new crank. Any info would be a big help.
i highly doubt it, they only made factory 302s for 3 years i believe, and the craze is stroking engines not destroking them.
your right only 3 years. I would still try. have you tried team camaro? your screen name looks familyar from the camaro and chevelle site.
Chevy. 4.3L. You will have to use a one pc. seal block. The rods are 5.94" so you can use 350 pistons.
They only made the 262 for 2 years, it had a 3.10" stroke, it would probally be just as hard to find one as a 327 block. They also made a 265 in 1994 that has a 3" stroke.
Like stated above, you can use the crank from the 262" Mini-LT1 (chevy caprice) in a one peice rear main 350 block (87- on IIRC) to get a 302. PLus, you get a roller cam block and the better rear main Those caprices are all over the junkyard.
the junk yards where i live are kindof limited, they don't have alot of new stuf, and there is only one place with anything older that the 70s so there isn't a good chance of finding somthing in the junkyard.
all the eagle ones were for a ford 302, not a chevy. i found 3 for chevy, 2 were used, i going for 600, the other was offset ground and i didn't want it. the last one was new, but the bid was at 513.27 and the reserve hadn't been met. i just called camaro central, they want 1499.00 for there 302 crank.
2manybillz is right. eagle forged crank 3" stroke 350 mains for $665 part number is 435030005700 http://www.eaglerod.com/products/Chevy/small block/SBC cranks.html
If you don't mind the late 1 piece seal block, the 4.6 "baby LT1" crank is a great piece. Cheap and easy to find, and will handle 7,000 RPM with a good balance.
The aftermarket cranks are the best way to go, but there's another way. Bill Jenkins used to run small journal early cranks in 350 blocks by making spacers for the main saddles. Kinda like the spacers you can buy to put a 350 crank in a 400 block. Then you could run an early 283 crank, which is pretty easy to find.
what's so hard about finding a small journal 327 block?? they are all over the place! there's one on ebay right now for $500 complete wthin half and hour of my house and that's spending 2 seconds looking. look through a couple of your local car trader mags and you will find a bunch of cheapies. I've already looked at going this way because I have a good 283 with ported heads. btw why do you want to run the 302? why pick up a 327 crank and stick with that?
