alt. wiring

    have a question on wiring? 50's model jeep has been converted to 12 volt. they used a GM alt. with built in reg. starts and runs seems to be charging but if not driven on regular basis drains battery down. all new battery and alt.. thank you for the help.

    1st things 1st...take a test light and disconnect the negative cable from the battery, connect the test light between the cable and the battery, the light should come on because of the draw on the system that is killing the battery. One at a time remove fuses until the light goes out and you have found the circuit that is drawing the battery. If you have any circuits that are not ran through the fuse block then disconnect them one at a time also. Very rarely does an altenator with and internal regulator drain the battery... hope that helps

    You may have a faulty diode in that unit. You might want to check that out...Ole Pork
