I remember living in Toronto, Canada and the year was 1977. Worst storm that I ever lived in growing up there. 10-14+ snow drifts. The way the wind blew it, over night it had us trapped in the house. We had to call the fire dept to dig us out, all the neighbours too. It got up to about -40 with the wind chill facture, No shit! That was a cold winter! KNUX!

This is what happens when a city with 300+ days of sun every year wants to stay home from school. We pull out all the stops and play bumper cars. :)

  9. Hey you could send that snow up here to New England. We have ski slopes on the verge of bankrupcy due to lack of snow.

It was 5 degrees when I got up this morning but I still haven't shoveled once this winter.

    Dead birds, snow.......what's next?

  10. Yeah, the Blizzard of '77™... The White Death™... I still walked to school in that fucker before I found out that school was closed, along with the rest of the city. I wasn't a very bright kid.

Now the blizzard of '82 or '83 (no ™ :D ) was a horse of a different colour. I got snowed in at a strip joint. Me and 1 wingman, 8 or 10 strippers and a bartender. Friggin' Penthouse never printed my letter. :D

I know I can drive and work in this stuff. the only thing that worries me is either the dude from across the border with the dually that can't drive in this stuff, or the guy from up the street with a dually that is convinced that somehow, his extra 2 wheels make it okay for him to do 60 in this shit.

I don't fear the Ice...I fear the people who don't respect it.

It is the same here in Los Angeles when the 1st rain hits. The surface still has the oil from all the cars and the rain mixes with it.....still drive 75-80 on the frwy and then all hell breaks loose! KNUX!

We got an Ice storm here on the north side of houston too. I saw 5 cars on the side of the road on my way to Huntsville this morning. All were from north of the Red River. Whats up? Is our ice differant from that up north? TP

Yes, actually it is. We get ice, they get snow. You have some traction on 6" of compacted snow. You have next to zero traction on a clear sheet of ice like we get here.

You might not have any idea what it's like. This year is not the one to compare weather though.

  21. Ka-zoo is right though you guys get out there and wrench you will have new respect for the yanks.

I now know something is really wrong with the weather. Last weekend we had very cold temps as in the condensation coming down from the roof of my shop froze almost instantly when it hit any part of the A.

I had enough of sliding around in the ice inside of my shop so I left and to my surprise it was RAINING outside!!!!! Colder than a well diggers ass in waist high water in January and its raining out. So that made for a fun drive back into town.

Here in Iowa they say if you don't like the weather move a block. We get 100 and humid and slide down to -15 before the wind chill hits it.

Everything was shut down here in San Antonio yesterday and today. We get even less freezing weather than Austin, so the drivers are scary here when it happens.

I'm from here, and even I think it is funny when the local stations are running 12 straight hours of weather updates, and referring to it as the "Arctic Blast." This was when it was 30 or 31 degrees out. :)

The reason most of us in Austin are freaking out about a tiny bit of snow/sleet/ice/freezing rain/plague of frogs etc. is that some of us live our lives fast and recklessly, and we live in a hot climate most of the year in preparation for Hell....and that's how we like it, if we wanted to freeze...we'd move :D

But now it is cold here......damn

Well that is what liquor is for!

Here is a pic of the ol "black pearl" under an inch of ice.

i got the entire sheet of ice off my hood in one piece...but it broke before the wife got the camera, 2.5 inches thick at its thickest point. but at its thinnest 1.25 thick.

Here is a pic from the frog plague (or toad):
