I always run legal, but that is very scary.

Wasn't that car a Corsica, not a Lumina like he called it?

I am not a big fan of programs that infringe on our privacy, but there are enough uninsured motorists in Texas to overload his computer.

I work at a Motorola Service Center at Kansas City. We recently had a big sales show generated to introduce the newest and best products to big agencies like Kansas City Police Department. Motorola brought in a big trailer with all kinds of new products set up to give an audio/visual show blah-de-blah-de-blah, you get the picture. I saw this exact product on display (saw that video too), it is already here and some cities have already purchased it.

It's not infringing on my, or anyone else's rights. That technology, as it exists now and as it is being used, isn't going to subject people to unreasonable search and seizure, invading their privacy, or sticking them on some sort of list...the people it targets are already on those lists, this just identifies them.
In Georgia, the state computers are tied in to auto insurance. If you're not insured, you can't get tags, and your license is suspended. If you get pulled over, the cops know you aren't legal. That's totally hit-and-miss.
Now, I DO get pissed off when they do random "Let's stop everyone and check their insurance" road blocks. THAT is infringing on my rights to unreasonable search. I didn't do anything, nor did I give them cause to randomly stop me. Time is being taken out of my schedule so they can bust the law breakers. But they've been doing that for decades.
That technology seems to target ONLY the people who are breaking the law, leaving the rest of us to continue on our way.

I don't mind that a bit. Same way I don't mind traffic light cameras that get the tags of people running stop signs and red lights.

Elwood says to Jake "I bet they got SCMODS".

Anyways, doesn't bother me. Let them catch all the drunk drivers who lost their licence, all the stolen cars and stolen licence plates, and people who have warrants for their arrest. Fuck those people, I don't mind a bit.

Wisconsin must be the last state not to require car insurance. Ain't gotta have it here.

they found a stolen car used in an armed robbery. that's a good thing.

.... oh how I miss the days of my youth. no license, no insurance, no money and no brakes.... and no unmarked cars with fancy cameras and computers to bitch-slap me back to reality and act like a responsible member of society.

  14. back to two plates..?
cant use antique year of mfr plates...?
can't customize your car to look like another year or model...
30-31-32 ford (grill) ss clones ..
    heavy customizing(what are you hiding)
    miss a smog inspection ?
cars parked in your yard w/o tags or title

these are minor issues they did not mention ..
what fine/ action(degree of enforcement) would be issued for non compliance?
like has been said find the bad crooks first
us law abiding folk should be just fine

  15. It may be sooner than you think.

  16. That may be a case legal hair splitting, but if the police are cruising parking lots, that's different. Most parking lots are private property. Ever try to get a police report for an accident in a parking lot? I've never had luck with that, they've always told me it's private property.

If you're legal, it's not a worry. Or it shouldn't be... (he looked around shiftily)

The one thing I see is most Police departments are so over stretched they wouldnt have time to go after all the minor offenders. Its all about money.
    It still sucks.
There slowly trying to put the eye on us all the time like in england. Fucking cams on the public everywhere and capable of zooming in and rotating. The slightest suspicious behavior and you got Police on the way.

  19. It's amazing that a country that doesn't even know what bacon is can have that kind of technology.

That same technology is being used on the toll roads that just opened in Austin. If you have a toll pass, it will validate it against your plate to make sure you aren't moving it between cars. If you skip paying the toll it will send you a bill. I wonder how long until they use it to spot stolen cars and others of "interest".

Yep... I don't have as much of a problem with them doing it on public property, but on private property I'd have to say it's infringing....

They've also been using this system in SF for parking tickets as of late. A buddy of mine got his car booted for having a couple outstanding parking tickets...

i find the whole idea disturbing myself. im legal and have always been legal but ANY intrusion on my personal privacy i find upsetting. if were going to give cops supreme authority like we are implying we are headed for the death of the free society.

Soon they won't need cops... It wouldnt be so bad if they really had good intentions behind it, but the truth is it's all money driven.

Looks like a great technology... Hope it stays in Canada... They deserve it.

This is shit compared to the patriot act. Here is a perfect quote from Ben Franklin summing it up. "They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."

You said it. And this ridiculous notion that all police are "heroes" because they have a tough job and "put thier lives on the line everyday" is crap. Nobody forces them to be cops, they arent drafted onto the force. If they feel the job is to risky quit and find another. I used to have a job helping people where I easily could have been killed or seriously injured everyday and I was never called a hero and thats just fine with me. Some cops are ok but it seems to me like most of them join the force because they are a bunch of glory hounds. Big government sucks.

if the software they are using has the power to pickup and identify the plate numbers of every car as they drive by at speeds shown in the video..

then one must assume that the software also has the ability to "REMEMBER" those digits from the officers shift as well..

now they have invaded my privacy..

    for example..
why does anyone need to know where I was driving at what time of day if I am legal (which I am)?

    interesting..

Don't get me wrong here,I love America and it's the best game goin' right now,but make no mistake about it,we are on the slippery slope in this country and many others as well, it's begining to sprinkle and the clouds are getting darker overhead because of fear and desire for the MOST almighty dollars.

""It's not infringing on my, or anyone else's rights. That technology, as it exists now and as it is being used, isn't going to subject people to unreasonable search and seizure, invading their privacy, or sticking them on some sort of list....""

Tell that shit to the tourists.

That's what they said about infrared camera technology. There were a couple of cops several years back here in Ok fartknocking around with one when they picked up an unusual heat signature in the top of this cats attic and something they can't quite make out, their curiosity is peaked so they surreptisiously look into his utility history and noticed a jump in the bill and decide it's grow lights and pot. Then what? They convince a judge to issue a warrant and search the guys house and bust him for growing pot in his attic.

WTF? Who gives a shit? It should be legal anyway!A minor example of how useful technology ain't gonna hurt anybody but the bad guys.

A not so technical case in point of harmless government programs, the DARE program. How many people have been busted because some naive kid spoke up at one about mom or dad or a neighbor smoking pot?Now the police the courts and the DHS are makin' their lives a living hell.

In my little corner of the woods,a town of just over 20,000 since the government has been spending HOMELAND SECURITY MONEY we now have 36 marked police vehicles and god only knows how many unmarked vehicles.Do we really need that many of 'em?

I saw an episode in a Wal Mart parking lot last summer,
(Granted I don't know the reason for the initial stop, but no one was arrested, how bad could it have been)?
A Mexican family,(Man,Wife and 3 terrified kids) and their clapped out Dodge Caravan with Mexico tags,1 highway patrol car,1 marked police car,2 unmarked police cars and 2 unmarked sherrifs dept. vehicles. They spent nearly 2 hrs watching the powers that be,throwing their stuff out on the ground as they went through it,pulling the spare out and removing door panels, scooping all the stuff out of the glove box pulling the ashtrays & air filter assy. dogs sniffin' around, guys thumping tires with a stethoscope on 'em crawling under ,over and around like a bunch of monkeys fuckin' a football.
They get done and just scoop some of their shit up and sling it haphazardly into the back and leve the rest on the ground, no apology or handshake or anything even vaguely resembling an apology and are skinin' out.
I'm thinkin I need to get some pics of this and am threatened with arrest for interference with a police officer doing his duty. PUHLEASE !
Mexican or no that is some scary shit!

The Patriot Act,giving the government the right to monitor all calls and internet activities. To enter your house without your knowledge or a warrant. All in the name of national security is a mistake because now that it has started, even if we killed all the terrorists tommorow,it will never stop.

Don't even bullshit yourself into believing seemingly random and harmless to all but the bad guy acts like these are all for our own good.

I mean how many among us has done something illegal?

Speeding,Changing lanes without signaling, Floating a stop sign, parking illegally, drinking 2 beers and driving when it shouldn't be more than one, made an off the cuff comment in a moment of anger,I'm gonna Kick your ass, flipping someone off,Pushed the limit on your tax deductions, made some cash on the side without reporting it,declared a lower than you paid for it price on a car you bought, bought a car without a title, ditched a class, spent part of a student loan on a non academic somethin',hell anything?

Just remember,Big Brother is watching YOU.

Call me paranoid if ya want but in my heart of hearts,I'm kinda worried about what might be coming down the road in the next couple of generations.
