I am planing on doing a motor swap in my 49 plymouth. I am pulling the motor and trans out of a 88 Chevy pickup and putting in my plymouth. I am looking for any advise or helpfull hints in doing such a task. My plan is to pull all the wiring and computer from the donor and use it too. I would like to use as much from the donor as possible. I will have the motor and ****** installed and then when i get it back i will attempt to install all the stock wiring and computer. Would also like to try and install the donor heater box and switches.

How do i do all this and keep the dash looking stock or at least something close. Any and all help or suggestions are greatly appericated.

    Thanks

Using the stock heat and A/C will be more trouble than it is worth. Someone like Vintage Air will be able to set you up a system with the factory appearing controls. The motor/trans swap is straight forward. Just pull the harness and send it to Fuel Injection Specialties. They will take out what you don't need/want and send it back as a stand alone system with about 4 wires to hook up.

Out of curiosity, are you just welding new motor mount points for the donor engine on your car, or does some one sell a kit for SBC transplants? (pardon my ignorance)

Not sure. I am having the motor and ****** installed for me. I will be hooking up the wiring, redoing the fuel tank and lines for fuel injection, and probably mounting a new radiator.

Couldn't i just take out all the wiring from the donor truck and put in the car. I know there will be alot but ... i wire custom motorcycles from the ground up and wiring really doesn't bother me.. ... remember red it hot and black is not.

Great thanks, I think I'll look into the ones Ply-do has, or I may just stick with the 318. Good luck with the swap Tank

I'd go for the 318! Ply-Do has the engine mounts for that also, I think the ****** mounts are over priced, make it yourself. There is a good chapter on putting a 318 into a 46-8 Plymouth in the Tex Smith Mopar Hot Rod book, should work on this. Might check with Mr. Street Rod also 805-589-1800

A chevy fits in the 49 plymouth really nice clearing the steering column by several inches. I , however had to put a 318 mopar , 1977 dodge truck engine. Also used the dodge truck radiator. Early 70s 3 speed stick ******, 11inch clutch, chevy rear end etc. The 318 is harder to put in, but it runs so nice. Engine has duals, 70s edelbrock streetmaster intake and modified quadrajet. I'm going to install a comp 268 cam and kit this winter. These plymouths are light weight and anything you put in them will be fun. hostaking

Cool. Thanks for the info. My main question is there any tips or tricks to putting the stock wiring harness in. Making the guages work? Can I use the stock heater out of the donor?

    Thanks

i think if you try to use the chevy wiring, heat and a.c. you will have a cluttered engine bay a mess under the dash and it will look like ****. i say dump the the injection and all of the other ****. i have a 51 plymouth hartop that i'm putting a sbc in. i ordered my mounts from plydo i would spend the money again on the ****** crossmember it's a nice piece. the swap is going pretty smooth. by a vintage air setup and a nice intake and it will look way better.
