I was at the Barrett-Jackson as well. Lots of cool stuff there. Some real overdone customs, but some nice cars too. I even saw a few near "traditional" style rods. Some stuff going way high, but some reasonable prices too. Quite an experience.

I think that what "most" people are trying to get across, is that "Bj" (kinda like that name for it) Blows the whole market out of proportion.......5 years ago I was buying Darts and Dusters (runners
) for 500.00 and under.....Now, Cant touch one for under 2 grand??????? I feel like I'm sometimes being priced right out of the hobby.....

Yes I do. I have never paid more than 6K for a car? It's my opinion. There is no car worth that sort of money. That's not a knock on any car that sells at BJ or anywhere else.

If I had 10 million dollars in the bank, I wouldn't pay $50K for a car. To each their own. If that is what you want to do though, I said, I have no problem with it.

Dotto on the big wheels looking sick. Bigger is not always better. The stupidest lookin cars i have ever seen are the older cars with the outragiously large wheels with stock suspension the make them set up like a FWD. Gag me with a pitch fork!

What two millionaires bid for a car is irrelevant to the value of the car.
Having said that, some guys are quietly picking up some incredible bargains when the big boys go to the bathroom.
Example: someone got a restored 53 Cadillac convertiblelast night, probably for the cost of the rechroming. $30,000.

I saw the Buick go over the block, very pretty car. Easily worth the money that was paid.

I worked in a resto shop for about 5 years and it wasn't uncommon to have 50K or even 100K into a restoration by the time everything was done, not to mention the purchase of the original car. So I don't think the prices are out of line, if the quality is there.

When I was putting my '40 Chrysler back together, I had a guy stop in at the shop and look at it, and he asked me if I'd ever considered selling one of my cars at the Barret-Jackson auction (referring to the 40). It was one of the most flattering comments I'd ever gotten.

And if no car is worth 50K, and wvenfield has never paid more than 6K for a car, then post up some pictures of these 6K cars that are just as cool as the stuff at Barret Jackson. I'm not ashamed to post up pictures of my cars. Let's see 'em.

I would drive either. Odds are the Buick being spoke about here doesn't have 200 miles put on it this year.

    That is sad.

Now that seems like a deal. I would pay $30K for that car before I bought a 30K New Chrysler.

But even for 30K will he drive it? Likely not in this situation. It's likely up for resale in a month. Nothing wrong with that but when he sells it for 50K will the guy drive it?

    Cool is a relative idea.

I think the 51 Ford that bukibkr recently sold is as cool as most cars that sell at B.J. That's not to say it's worth as much.

    You disagree?

Watched the past two nights, nothing really exciting crossed the block. I only got to bid on two Hagerty Fantasy Bid cars, and they fell way short of what I thought they'd bring. Is that a Yellowstone tour bus they keep showing in the forground but never talk about?

Do you see that the maximum amount you are willing to pay for a car ($6,000) does not have any bearing what so ever on what other cars out there are truely worth?

You might not be willing to pay what they are worth BUT that doesn't mean they are not worth what the owner is asking.

My dead beating horse day is over, it's the Friday of the Barrett Jackson auction, I have just three more hours to work then it's cheap chinese food in my PJ's in front of the TV all nite watching some of the nicest cars ever and dreaming about how many of those $50,000 cars I WOULD buy if in fact I had 10 mill in the bank. Glen's would have been one of the first ones on the list.:D

This reply is apples and oranges. I was asked what 6K car is as cool as what passes over B.J. auction block.

I gave an example. Is it worth as much as most at B.J.? No. Is it as cool for 6K. Damn straight in my opinion.

Watching doesn't irritate me. The idea was brought up as to why people rag on B.J. I posted an opinion.

I respect your opinion, and the most expensive car I've ever personally bought was $4800 (at least as a starting point, I've stuck more than that into a build), so I see where you're coming from, but I'm having a hard time seeing thest two cars as being equal. I still think there are cars worth paying 50K or 100K for.

Sure, a 6K car could be fun, but that doesn't mean that there are no cars worth paying more money for. Here's a pic of your example and a pic of the Buick that brought $51K. Judge for yourself.

In the abstract sense of "worth" I do. To others I do. I was posting my opinion. It's simply my opinion that no car is worth 50K. Being that I am the utmost expert on my opinion makes it correct. That opinion and .50¢ will get me a cup of coffee.

Which to me sounds like more fun than spending $12 for a movie ticket.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not ragging on the Buick. It's a beaut.

Out of your 11 replies on this thread you haven't contributed anything meaningfull yet.

This is my opinion, and going by your own logic, that means I'm right...

And that's cool. If you have 50K to spend, I'd never begrudge you the right to do that. I'd never say you were an idiot for spending that kind of money for a car (now, some of the other cars that get sold, I just might)

If you want to spend 50K for a supercharged 4WD Yugo, man it's your money. I'm not begrudging people spending their money how they see fit.

Again though, I find it sad that the Buick will likely never see another 200 miles on the road.

The Buick is beautiful. The Ford is plain cool. I'm not saying that in real terms the Ford is equal in value. If so, then I would have to argue the Ford is equal in value to a 1962 Rambler I'm looking at.

To me, there is no car worth 50K. Again, that's simply an opnion as far as worth to me. For 50K the Buick likely won't be alot of fun for the new owner. At least not in my view. If you get a kick out of rolling it on a trailer for people to look at, hey it's your money.

Now I did see the guy last year that spend whatever millions on the Chevelle convert ex drag car take it back to the drags. Now, I have to give him props for that.

The quality in that Buick is top notch. No doubt.

The work I've seen many do here is incredible. Far and away above what I can do. I appreciate their skill big time.

How can you fucking say that when you don't even know the owner that bought it!!!!

A $50,000 driver is NOT uncommon nowdays. In fact, in the real world it's probley the norm rather then the exception. Yep, there are LOTS of piles of $100 craps in this world BUT have you been to a NSRA or GG show lately?? THOUSANDS of cars in EXCESS of $50,000 easily.

If you actually knew what I had in my car, or my Dad for that matter and between us we have in excess of over 100,000 miles driven. We are very blue collar folks. People DO have nice, expensive cars and drive them without giving it a care in the world.

Ditto for my stupid ass bike, I'll never ever get my money out of it, in fact I've lost money on every car I ever sold, I've only ever made money on parts. And that oughta tell you something, wvenfool, parts are absurdly expensive, vintage originals doubly so, don't forget labor, even if I paid myself $1 an hour, fuck that, let's make it $1 a WEEK, I would still have lost money.

If you honestly can't find one single car that you think is worth $50,000 you are sleepwalking.
