I've got an opportunity to pick up a '40 coupe for an obscenely low price, and I'm thinking custom. There was a '40 custom in an early issue of Rodder's Journal with an absolutely pitch perfect stance. I think it might have been issue #5. I saw it mentioned, and a picture shown here at some point. I'm hoping somebody can tell me which issue it is or even post some pics of the car so I can rip-off the overall look. Thanks.
I think you're referring to Jim Walker. I've seen some of his customs before, but didn't know what he had in his total collection. Rikster had shed some light awhile back on his collection and background info on each custom. I fell in love with his collection of period perfect customs/mild customs. This one is perfect. Hey! you still working on that 36 ford as a Westergard custom too (I think it's red?). Maybe some updates? Here's the link to the thread too: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=53942&&showall=1 Ken
your making it even worse that i dont have a custom project...now you have 2!! i have a friend with a chopped 39 coupe...i dont have any pictures of it though...but it looks good! how is the other car coming along? Zach
This kind of thing really bugs the crap outa me. Why do some people feel that 40 Fords are so damn perfect that they should not be touched? Face it...the roof is too damn tall. The chopped sample posted above is a very cool car - but to you it is apparently appaling?
How many cars did Ford build in 1940? Don't cut a 40 Lincoln Continental, but there is nothing sacred about a 40 Ford except a strong tradition of building beautiful hot rods and customs.
actually, if there was one prewar car that I would drive daily stock it would be a 40. just beautiful. one of very few cars that I like in a resto-rod type job.
I'm with the no-cut on the 40. I have a 39 coupe, and have to say that they ARE perfect the way they are. Mercurys on the other hand...cut the son of a bitch apart!
eh,ya stupid newbie...this aint no ford barn or restorers messageboard! we make KUSTOMS to make them look the way we figger they shoulda looked from the FACTORY!!!plenty of room for improvement! creepy
The same could be said about 50 Fords. Here a chopped shoebox, there a chopped shoebox, everywhere a chopped shoebox. Differences in opinion make this world more fun. Myself, I would never cut a 40 Ford, a 40 Merc on the other hand
