Subj: Keystone / Bison Dragways, Winnipeg pics from the 60's & 70's Hey all, I first ran across this site after catching a little blurb in Rod & Custom back in 2005. It includes hundreds of great pics of cars running at the strip from the 60's & 70's before the dragway finally met its maker. My dad used to drag his car (now under reconstruction in my shop) at that strip in '68 and '69. I literally ran to my computer hoping to find some unknown photos of his car at the track. I didn't find any, but I did get a hold of the site owner, and he remembered my dad and "Sweet Thang" - the '28 A-bone B/SR so he posted some of the pics I had from my dad. http://www.mts.net/~red67/index.html (scroll to the very bottom of the index page and click on a page number. "Sweet Thang" is just past midway on p. 4)
I remember being there in either '69 or 70 as a very young kid. It was the weekend that the "Backup Pickup" was there. I submitted a pic of me and my brothers standing in front of it. I also recall watching the yellow Anglia Panel make a few runs. Too cool!
I'm pretty sure that is the roof of my 55 Nomad to the right of the driver's head. The "locals" got a kick out of us using coca cola cups to smuggle brewski up into the grandstand. We had some good times there. We camped out in the Nomad on the way up there from northern Minnesota. Thanks for the link to the site. overspray
Man, I cannot BELIEVE how many H.A.M.B.ers I've run across from my home state of North Dakota. Is it a requirement?
No, but it is a great qualification. I grew up 100 miles north of you on the East side of the Red River. Got all my muscles throwing sandbags in the spring. Then, when the water went down, we'd look for old iron on the river bank. overspray
