I have this 62 nova. I thought this might be a cool different way to build one. The second one is the photoshopped version. i think it looks damn cool. what do you think?
All I see changed is the rear wheelwell opening filled in. And if you want my opinion, I don't like it. Doing it this way would make it impossible to change your rear tires. They make skirts for a '62 Nova if that's what you want, although I don't like skirts on much past 1960. Nova's are a bit too musclecar era for 40's and 50's tricks like skirts or wide whitewalls. If there's something else here that I'm not noticing, let me know.
Naw!!! That car would be cool just lowered with black steelies, chrome bullet lugs and cones, thin whites, a Macco white paint job with black and grey pinstriping and a detailed 194-250 six popper with finned aluminum valve cover, dual carb manifold, header and a simple, clean interior with pinstriped dash and metallic silver steering wheel.
If you're stuck on the idea of having skirts, this might look a little better. I just lowered it, put skirts on it, and chopped the top a little. Paint-wise, something like this (with a laced roof) might look good: I was thinking maybe even a roof swap for one a little more streamlined. Here's the same picture skirt-less: Just throwing some ideas out for you to toy with...
Go with your name-G***ER. Remeber the one Steve from Hot Rod mag built a coupe years ago...altered wheelbase and all. Go full size for a custom.
Leave it alone,,,or build a g***er style.... The chevy II just ain't the type of car for a custom,,,,HRP
Some of what hack said. trash the 6 cylinder and build a real rod out of it and don't get too carried away with the pin stripes. Its a '60s car, build a '60s car. Oh the skirts? real bad idea, its not a caddy its a nova.
I snagged mistermsucles photoshop and took the door handles off and got rid of some dents....I kinda like it.
If your just getting started building cars, one of the first things you need to do is: Pick a style you like such as custom, g***er, 70's street freak, etc... and stick with that style and then start with the ideas you and others may have for the car. As you can see many of us have good photoshop abilities and can put your ideas to work and see what the end result would be. That car looks good High or Low. Good Luck, Michael
HMMMMM what would I do? Done to the ***s screaming small block four speed with a completely stock looking exterior. Muffle it as best you can and go ricer hunting....
To me those little Chevys are just begging for the 'g***er' treatment. Here's Magnantes, just right I think.
Nah... turbo six or turbo Eco-Tech, or Ford 2.3L from a T-bird Turbo Coupe. Fours and sixes can be "real hot rods" too!! (waiting to get flamed now...) You know, I don't like rear wheel skirts either, but it ain't my car. You can build something I like, or you can build something you like. You have to like it, even if you want to donk it with 24" wheels and rubbber band tires and people here won't even give you the time of day, if YOU like and enjoy it, well, 'nuf said!! That's why I drive a Rambler, and could care less that most people wonder why in hell I put $20K in a Rambler four door station wagon. I really don't care, but most do think it's a cool car... for a Rambler station wagon anyway... But do I care? Nope. It's what I want, and what I like. I've only had a bit over half a dozen Ramblers over the years!!
Looks exactly like the one I had in high school...except nicer I'd actually like to get another one to do a mild custom; red with a white roof, skinny whitewalls, lowered slightly, keep the 194 but add dual carbs and a split exhaust manifold, 3 speed overdrive...
I like the chop - different enough that you probably wouldn't see another done that way. Leave the rear wheelwells open too - I think it looks to ***-end heavy with them filled in or skirted. Just my 2¢ Steve
I already have a 52 chevy g***er which is exactly why i wouldnt want this one to ALSO be a g***er. And yes skirts were what its supposed to have. and its also lowered in the picture...not sure about that chop in the one pic you guys posted though. a bit odd
I like how you got the bad paint and rust along the bottom of the skirt just right. Looks very authentic. Don't do it. Skirts on any car after '55 just doesn't look right, especially something that new. The g***er look really works for those cars, but that's about all I can think of that fits the body style of those early Novas & II's.
Hope I didn't sound like too much of a **** in my first response. Anyway, if you want to do a 50's style custom with skirts and stuff, then consider trading it for an early 50's Chevy. There are a lot of people who'd love to have that Nova and would be willing to trade. I can understand not wanting to have two cars done up the same way. And I think the chop is unnecessary. This car has a very pretty roofline as-is and it would take a ****load of work to do a properly proportioned chop with gl***.
I already have a 52 chevy g***er which is exactly why i wouldnt want this one to be a g***er. I think a chop might be a little weird on an early 60s car. But skirts, stock hubcaps, and dropped 2 inches all the way around would look cool i think, maybe a red flake top.
I wouldn't modify the body one bit. cherry it out, all little old lady like and but a nice strong V8 in it. they make all sorts of upgraded suspension for those cars, and everybody and thier brother has disc brakes for them. ... though the g***er idea would be cool. never can have too many g***ers.
It's your car so try it if ya want. I've seen a couple attempts to make this body style into a custom and they just didn't work for me. Could be the angular body style. Customs need to flow and these just don't. Maybe a real mild treatment - 2" drop - smooth off the badges and some of the chrome and spend some bucks on the paint and interior. Either that or an all out restyle so ya can't tell it was a Nova. But no skirts, they just dont work on here. Personally I'd go the g***er route.
