After taking my 53 Chevy pickup on the interstate for the first time the other day, I'm thinking hard on doing the S10 swap. Hamber Earl Schieb has offered to sell me a long bed S10 which has already had a 350 swapped into it.

Have any of you done this swap with an S10 already converted to a V8? Will the motor setback work as is, or will it need to be moved and/or the firewall modified?

I did a search and read Clarks tech post but really didn't see an answer on this.

    Thanks!

I'm building a 50 chevy truck on a 99 S-10 ext cab short bed ch***is, 123 inch wb. I am using the v-8 swap engine mounts and headers which work great with a *****in firewall and toe boards, we had to modify the body mounts a bit but nothing really serious, we used the air bar for the rear and bagged the frt as well, works really well

We don't have the motor in yet but have been told it needs to move back about 4" from the S10 V8 swap mounts. I'll let you know what we find out as it goes along!

Hoboy56 did this swap, I'll ask him.

Thanks for the info, I'm just trying to figure out whether we can do the changeover with the engine in place or not. Making new mounting plates and all won't be a problem, I'm just trying to gather information.

  5. I'm running a 331 cad adapted to the 54 truck 4 speed. will this set up work well with the s-10 ch***is? that granny gear is perfert for 5:00 traffic on the freeways and cruising Spring steet at Paso!

hell i have a 425 caddy in Marge & its on a S10 frame & all i had to do was put a couple of dimples in the firewall to clear one valve cover & a water outlet, BUT the reason i did that was the fuel pump & the steering column were too close & i wanted the stock fuel pump. i have a **** load of pics below under Large Marge. if u have any QQQ's just ask...joe

I've been measuring out on ours and it will be tight. I'm thinking about adapting the firewall just to make sure we can run the HEI.

I also used a *****in firewall and and floor. I put in the Jags that run mounts and have enough clearance. I used the stock radiator but, had to make a new support for it. the bottom of tha rad had to be kicked out to clear the steering box. I am also using stock small block exhaust manifolds. Everything is fine so far.

  11. Hey Gator I had a 4-5" set back with HEI and stock firewall, 6" th350 and a 56 chevy car driveshaft with $20 rear u-joint tho adapt to the S10. I used Trans-Dapt universal street rod engine mounts. The body was mounted kinda high but had no handling problems on the turnpike at 80+mph, er, I mean the posted limit of 65:eek:

    Gator,
If you use the custom JAG or Summit mounts meant for a V8 into an S-10 it will set the engine forward 2"-4". The engine with a TH700R4 or TH350 w/9"tailshaft will drop right in and you won't have to change the driveshaft. I used the regular engine mounts, and had to move my trans mount and get another driveshaft. I did an 52 F1 on an S-10 frame with a 327 SBC. If you need info, go to my website. I have photos and details. It's for a Ford body on an S-10 frame, but you'll get the info you need on the frame.
