I'm getting ready to give my car a little makeover and have a few questions hopefully someone can answer. First of all, the car in question is my '59 Biscayne. I'm wanting to make it look like a weekend warrior/super stock type car from the early to mid sixties. I'm going to run chrome reverse w/cheaters on the rear and 5 spokes and skinnies up front. I haven't decided for sure whether to run 14 or 15 inchers up front. Rears will be either 15x7 or 8, whatever looks best with the tires I have. Anyway, what I need is some info on setting up my front end. I've done some searching of the archives here and I think I want to go with the ball joint spacers that go between the ball joint and the a-arm, along with a set of 409 springs. I would like the front to sit a little high, but not super high like a gasser or street freak. The main thing I want is the rise when I get on it. Does this sound like the way to go to achieve those results? Also, if I go with those style spacers, I will probably make them myself since I have access to machines at work and I get bored sometimes(At least midnight shift is good for something ). Would it be better to make them from aluminum or steel? We have steel at work, but not much aluminum. I can get aluminum if it would be the better choice, but the steel is much easier to get my hands on. Thanks, Fred
I just added 409 springs and 2" ball joint spacers to my 57 chevy. The stance is exactly 5" higher then before. My buddy took 1 of my upper ball joints to work and made them out of steel, said he didn't have any aluminum that size, anyway im happy! Duke
theres a guy selling them just like mine on ebay, just look for ball joint spacer. I got my springs at Advance Auto, I ordered them and they were there in 2 days. TRW brand, i can get the part # if ya want. Duke
I am making a set of aluminum upper ball joint spacers for my '73 Vega. I can’t seem to find any or any specifications for them. I am thinking of making them two inches high. Does anyone know what the angle on the end needs to be for two inch spacers?
