    I don't have anything fancy... full pressure 235 w/ petronix, a hot coil, and a 2 barrel progressive Holley/Weber... but with a 3.55 rear end and a T-5 I can lay rubber in 1st and chirp'em in 2nd.

i bet it sounds damn good!

yeah, i'm in the battle of put in a "big 6" or small block.

i'd really like to find a 250 or 292...but haven't had too much luck with that.
i want a cruiser that i can have some fun with...not a drag car or nothing.

52 Chevy 1/2 Ton Pickup... It's all about knowing when to drop the clutch and not having any weight in the rear!

Go big 6 with an s10 T5 behind it, Better yet Gmc 302 if you can figure how to fit it in there. They sell them Crate.

thats the route i was thinking...the 302 would be badass! don't have the funds for a crate though...the key, like you said would be fitting it in and finding one. of course, people dump big blocks left and rigth in these cars...i'm sure, with some mod. it would fit.

yea, i had a line on a 292, fresh rebuild, but can't get the guy to call me back...guess he changed his mind...heh...

Here's my Chevy 194 "Thriftmaster". I had a guy in Bakersfield who's known for his Chevy L6 racing motors in the late sixties and early seventies build mine. It's ported, polished, balanced and blueprinted. He was stoked to get to use some of his old tricks again. I'm ditching the two 94s and going with three Webers. Exhaust will be custom made headers exiting through a complete '32 axle bent to follow the shape of the modified body. Ignition is a new stock distributer with Pertronix guts. All wires will be cloth covered. I'm running a 700r4 behind it.

The best thing about the 194, 230, 250 and 292 motor is that parts are available everywhere!

The 235 in my '53 is a full pressure 235. Car was originally equipped with a 216/3 speed engine. I was told that stick shift cars in '53 were the 216 (thriftmaster) and automatic cars (powerglide) were the 235. The original engine had poured babbitt bearings and dippers on the rod caps. This engine is the 235 with insert bearings and full pressure crank. Car is currently running a saginaw 4 speed/Hurst shifter and nova rear end. Fenton cast iron exhaust manifolds through smitty glass packs. Edelbrock 2-1 manifold with dual carbs.

for the most part thats true...
in 1953, chevy cars had the 235, the powerglide equiped cars were the only full pressure engine in '53. standard tranny meant "babbitt pounder". in '54 the went full pressure on all.

what year nova rear is that? any clearance issues?

a good motor for your 54 and older chevys is a 53p/g or any 54. reason being they have the short water pump needed to bolt into the early cars. there is also 261 cu truck motor avail. same deal. i see these on the stovebolt site . patricks in az has a short water pump that lets you use the later 235. his free catalog has lots of 235 hot rod engine stuff.

If you're looking for a 250, check out some of the plain jane base model camaros. That's what came original in the one I have.

I'm building a 292 right now. Mild cam,30 off the head and block, holley 390, offy intake, Langdon headers.

Keep in mind they do sell 292/302 re-man 6's but good luck finding brackets etc. or at least in my area.

At the Flathead Inline drags in Denver, there was a guy running a 292 GM block made into a blown 2 cycle. It had a weird sound and he ran it, but never could get it running right.

Sounds rad! I'm assuming he's using the blower to push the exhaust out of the cylinder rather that trying to divide the crankcase up into sections? Sounds wildly inefficient and stupid...in a cool way! Need more info if you got it!

many many moons ago (1970) I had a 1960 Chevy Biscayne 2 door, dog dish hub caps, plain jane as can be, BUT had a 292" six, 4 speed, 3.90 posi, split headers (exited rear as single in stock location) much internal massaging by local "old guys" in neighborhood and 4 bbl. intake. I surprised many unsuspecting street racers, I still love sleepers to this day.

Count me in - I got a whole bunch of Stovebolt 6's.

Ain't got no pics of the stuff (can't re-size for shit), but I've got some nice shit incl a tri-carb setup, a blower, a couple of sets of pop-up pistons, some real nice cams, ignitions and a whole bunch of hi-po tips from the experts to give my 235's and 261's real gow.

Patrick's Antique Trucks used to advertise some NOS 302 Jimmy mills, as did the now defunct Wayne Manufacturing Co.

Here's my 250, with a 700R4 behind it. 3 side draught Dellortos and a mild cam. Home made intake, plug wire loom, modified headers and custom deco air intake box under filter. Runs good, plan on converting Dellortos into throttle bodies and running port injection.
