Not what you think sorry.Someone evidently lost the trunk key to my 61 & this is the result. How do I fix this? The latch is only a coupla inches behind this so it is very difficult to get to from the inside.
Is this an incripted message? You may know what your looking at and what you need done but with no photo and clear information how can anyone help you? The Wizzard
What are you tyring to do? Get in the trunk for the first time or fix it? You should be able to get a screwdriver in there and pop it open. Repairing it. I would weld a patch in it and install a selonoid trunk opener. My 49 has no latch gravity keeps it shut. Thats how the Kustom Mercs were when I was a teen. Guys just shaved them and the weight held them shut, you cant lock anything up but there you go.
I was posting before the pics showed up. Remove the trim and weld and fill with a patch. Keep the trim and put it back on if you want.
Ya gotta cut it out and replace it. If you dont have the means to make your own patch panel ( not that hard) I think Eastwood sells the panel.
I know how to open it.I would like to fix it.Covering it then using a trunk popper sounds like a great idea.Thanx
well... if you want to shave the trunk cut a bigger hole and a matching patch and weld it or have it welded in. a hole this small should be a no filler deal. the patch should be 1 pubic hair smaller than the hole. if you want to put a lock in there like original it does not look to me to be too bent out of shape where it couldnt be fixed. get a lew lock mechansim from ebay or somewhere and fit it in. looks like an easy fix to me either way
That looks like a pretty easy fix to re-install the stock lock if thats what you want to do. You really don't need to get behind it with the right tools. If it were here I'd have it done in less than 2 hours, no problem. I'm sure you can find someone local to help ya out with it. It's really pretty minor damage. The Wizzard
Holes are coooool= ratrod! Orrrrr, put a sticker over it like a skull or something, orrrrr, put a rubber rat in the trunk looking out through it, scary. In short, don't be afraid of your hole, embrace it!
Eastwood has a tool for forming lock holes. Never used one so I can't say how well it works. Here's the link.
Bone,I looked at the Eastwood link.Took a bolt & nut and some large washers and made my own,& it worked great.Thank You.Sometimes the answer is so simple that you cant see it.That is one reason why I like the HAMB. Thanks again..oldfart
